The region is home to many lakes, reed marshes or 'vleis', rolling hills, and small villages marking the landscape. Birding is very popular with many different species of bird in the area and many different and crucial ecosystems in the area.
The mountains in the area have interesting rock formations and bushmen paintings. The area has a rich history with many battles being fought by the original inhabitants as well as Anglo-Boer battles.
