Yet another town that grew rapidly upon the discovery of gold in the area, Sabie is situated on the banks of the Sabie River and today is mostly centred around the timber industry. With vast plantations and row upon row of pine and bluegum trees, the plantations surrounding Sabie are said to be amongst the biggest man-made forests in the world.
The town is home to the only forestry museum in South Africa which tells the tale of the origins of the timber industry in the country. Also in the vicinity are a number of waterfalls including Horseshoe, Lone Creek, Bridal Veil and the twin Mac-Mac falls en-route to Graskop and the Blyde River Canyon.
