The Southern Region is predominantly farmlands with maize, sunflowers, tobacco, fruits, and cotton being grown in the area with a friendly and hardworking population. In fact over 80 percent of the province's economic activity occurs between the towns of Potchefstroom and Klerksdorp.
The Vaal River runs along the southern border providing great fishing and boating opportunities. Considered a delight for outdoor adventurers, the Southern Region offers great opportunities for hiking, river rafting, and mountain biking. Other great outdoor attractions are the Bloemhof and Boskop Dam Reserves.
