Famous for its hot springs, wild flowers and birdlife the town of Caledon is the capital of the Overberg region and lies at the foot of the Klein Swartberg. The town offers a number of sites of historical interest as well as walking and hiking trails in the surrounding foothills that are rich in fynbos and home to the largest population of the Blue Crane.
The town is most famous for its hot springs that were used by the local Bushmen and Hottentot tribes long before they were stumbled upon by European explorers. The springs produce up to 1-million litres of hot, iron and mineral enriched water every day – at a constant temperature of 50ºc. Today visitors can relax and enjoy the springs at the Caledon Spa, which also offers health and beauty treatments, a fitness centre and a casino.
