The Klein Karoo town of Calitzdorp is surrounded by three mountain ranges and offers a combination of genuine Karoo hospitality, beautiful scenery and a melting pot of architecture and history.
Known as the Port capital, Calitzdorp has the ideal hot, dry climate needed for cultivating port-grapes and for enthusiasts, the perfect time of year to visit this charming village would be in July, when the annual Port Wine Festival is held.
Surrounding attractions include the Gamkaberg Nature Reserve, home to the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra, and just over the Swartberg mountains lies the vastness of the Great Karoo. Calitzdorp forms part of the popular Route 62 – the scenic route that travels between Cape Town and Oudtshoorn and then on to the Garden Route towns of George and Knysna.
