Situated halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth on the picturesque Garden Route, George is the commercial hub of the region and is also an excellent base from which to explore the surrounding attractions of the Garden Route. As one of the oldest towns in South Africa, George is well established, yet it has retained a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.
Activities and attractions include a range of sports and outdoor activities as well as beaches, and beautiful scenery. Hiking is popular in George going through forests and fynbos with great views over George and the coast. The area is also home to three of South Africa's top golf courses, including the Fancourt Golf Estate designed by Gary Player.
George offers the perfect gateway to the Garden Route with easy access to the towns of Sedgefield, Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay and further inland to the ostrich-farming town of Oudtshoorn.
