Situated in the Cape Winelands and only a 40-minute drive from Cape Town, Paarl offers a charming country feel while also being an important agricultural centre. Picturesque vineyards surround the town and a host of wine estates can be visited for wine tastings, cellar tours and leisurely lunches and picnics.
Paarl is one of the oldest towns in South Africa and is found at the foot of the distinctive granite domes or “Paarl Rock” after which the town is named. Another interesting landmark is the Afrikaans Language Monument – erected to commemorate the origin of the Afrikaans language.
Paarl is home to a number of interesting historical attractions and museums as well as art and craft galleries, restaurants and plenty of outdoor activities including golf, fishing, horse riding and mountain biking.
