At the foot of the Swartberg mountains, Prince Albert is an oasis in the Klein Karoo where sun-ripened fruits including figs and apricots as well as olives, olive oil and cheeses are produced. An annual Olive Festival provides the opportunity to sample some of the local fare and to enjoy activities, music and entertainment.
The famous Swartberg Pass, completed in 1888 by engineering genius Thomas Bain is noted as one of the finest in the world and offers spectacular views, beautiful scenery, birdlife and fresh country air.
The town itself is home to a number of interesting historical buildings, ranging from Victorian to Cape Dutch, as well as a museum and art gallery showcasing local works.
