The seaside town of Wilderness is an outdoor lovers retreat and an eco-tourism paradise. Surrounded by miles of beaches, the spectacular Outeniqua Mountains, lush forest, lakes, rivers and lagoon, Wilderness has breathtaking beauty and sweeping vistas.

Here visitors can laze on the beach, hike through forests of Giant Yellowwoods or explore one of the lakes by canoe. There are restaurants and craft shops, boating and fishing, bird watching and mountain biking to enjoy; or simply sit back, relax and take in the scenery.

The entire Wilderness area falls into the Wilderness National Park; proclaimed in 1983 to protect the aquatic wildlife. The six lakes of the area are home to a great variety of fauna and flora including the Cape Clawless Otter, the Knysna Lourie and five species of kingfisher.
