Vanrhynsdorp is the ideal town as a stay over choice when travelling the N7 – we are at the intersection of the N7 north (en-route to/from Namibia) and R27 (en-route to Upington/Johannesburg). It is about a 3 hours’ drive from Cape Town and as yet a Crime free village! Aant Dorpseind is at the very end (east side) of town and borders farmland thus you can enjoy a quiet and peaceful overnight.
We pride ourselves with comfortable and neat accommodation. Make your business trip an enjoyable experience! We are within walking distance of the world-renowned quiver tree and succulent nursery. Despite the old world feel all 4 studio cottages of Aan't Dorpseind are upmarket, spacious, fully equipped for self catering. We also operate as a B&B. We are wheelchair friendly.
Each cottage is fitted with 2 twin beds with high quality linen/towels and electric blankets; en-suite bathroom (only showers); aircon; hairdryers; DStv; wall-mounted heaters, fridge/freezer; microwave and all you need in a kitchenette; braai on patio; undercover and secure parking; swimming pool. Daily cleaning services available.
Vanrhynsdorp is at the intersection of the N7 north (en-route to Namibia) and R27 (en-route to Upington/Johannesburg). It is about 3 hours from Cape Town. It is the most southern town of Namaqualand and borders the arid Knersvlakte, where a third of the world's succulents grow. Three botanical kingdoms converge here, namely the Name Karoo vegetation, succulents in the Knersvlakte and Cape fynbos on the mountains. In spring this botanic diversity bursts into a kaleidoscope of colour. It is an absolute miracle and thousands of tourists annually travel this route for this amazing happening! It is an area of contrasts - to the northwest you have km's of flat, barren Karoo; to the south-east the mountains - Matzikama mountain range, with its two best known sub-ranges: Maskam and Gifberg. Aan't Dorpseind has a beautiful view on the Maskam. The Gifberg is known for its high quality rooibos tea, fynbos, dinosaurus-like rock formations and hiking trails.
Attractions: Latsky Radio Museum; Victorian architecture; bird watching; 4 x 4 drives; hiking trails; Olifants River wine route/wine tasting; 40 minutes drive to the ocean town of Strandfontein; salt mining at Papendorp; mining activities along the west coast and in the Knersvlakte; The Nama village, Ratelgat, is about 40 minutes away; the Vanrhyns Pass built in (circa) 1881 by Thomas Bain, son of Andrew Geddes Bain who built amongst others the Bainskloof Pass near Wellington.
