Come and stay in a safe haven during these stressing times, hide away from it all. This cosy rustic wooden cottage is situated in a gorge, next to the indigenous forest and is totally private, and within earshot of the stream, with stunning views of the mountains.
It is situated on the property of Forest creek lodge & Spa, in a private Nature reserve.
The cottage has a fireplace in the lounge/ dining room and is fully equipped. There is a large outside braai area, with a table for a lazy breakfast, lunch or supper.
The cottage comprises 1 queen bedroom en-suite (bath and toilet, with the shower over the bath), another small bedroom with single bed and a double sleeper couch in the lounge.
The cottage is suitable for couples with young children or for that romantic getaway, as the bathroom is open plan!
Hiking Trails:
One of our unique activities at Forest Creek are the Hiking Trails in the “Cloud Forest”. The trails are designed for the entire family, and are suitable even for those who are not very fit. Under this canopy of trees and at the edge of the mountain one feels very small, in comparison to the magical views. The walk to the waterfall is approximately 2 kilometers, winding through the forest and crossing the stream in several places under the canopy of large indigenous trees.
One is likely to hear the baboons barking and spot the odd bush buck or red duiker and see the Cinamon Doves, Narina Trogon's and Lourie's that frequent the forest. In the wetter months the ferns, orchids and wild mushrooms offer spectacular opportunities for the more photographic inclined. A tree platform built in a large fig tree above the forest canopy, is an ideal stop for birders or to just relax and enjoy a picnic!
Scattered in the forest are remnants of old stone structures some of which are supposedly several thousand years old and are under study at present.
The forest is beautiful, friendly and safe.
A question often asked is "Where are you?" The only way we can explain this is to say, if you were in Dullstroom and jumped off the mountain, you would land in our gorge (Box Canyon).
Bush Bath - Set in a secluded spot, enjoy a 'Bath' in the bush, with lots of bubbles and champagne under the moonlight and stars.
Forest Spa - Indulge yourself in our private Spa overlooking the gorge, go home feeling relaxed and stress free.
Gazebo Romantic Private Dinner - Spoil your loved one, and request this romantic setting for a totally private candle lit dinner under the gazebo. Many a proposal of marriage has been accepted in this lovely setting!
Hikers Picnic - A picnic packed in a rucksack, get ready to hike to the waterfall!
Lazy Picnic - A picnic set out for you in a private spot, with champagne, a good one for the romantic at heart.
Hiking - Marked trails through the forest, along the stream, (where in summer you can see the tiny tree Orchids, ferns and flowers, and fungi).
Bird Watching - We have a prolific variety of uncommon species of Birds that can be seen, including a resident pair of Black Eagles. We have a Forest Creek bird list.
Horse Riding - 4km down the hill, book a ride in our scenic valley.
Mountain Biking - Bring your bikes and enjoy the off road cycling. Great views as you ride. A hard ride!
Clay Pigeon Shooting - An interesting and testing range for the novice and experienced shotists.
Jet Ski - Bring along your own Jet Ski and enjoy a day of fantastic skiing on the Kwena Dam, the dam is 12kms from Forest Creek. The dam is 1200 Hectares. Picnic’s available. There is no charge, and parking is available for your trailers and Ski’s.
Elephant Rides - Enjoy a day’s outing and visit the ‘Elephant Whisperers’ where one can interact with the Elephants. You get to touch and feel the animal, and have a educational talk on the animal after which you can go for a ride on this magnificent beast. I went and it is really awesome. One tick off my bucket list. Bookings must be made in advance.

The Forest cottage is situated on the property of Forest Creek lodge & Spa, which is a private Nature reserve, in the gorge of the Steinkampsburg Mountains, the cottage is 1/2 a km from the main lodge right next to the "Cloud forest" and stream.

The cottage The Forest cottage is a rustic fully equipped self-catering cottage, with a
fridge/freezer, microwave / stove with oven, we provide towels, soap, tea,
coffee, all you need to bring is your food, clothes shampoos etc. it has DSTV and a DVD player. with stunning view of the mountains, and is totally
private. The cottage is suitable for couples with small children as the bathroom is open plan romantic style. Comprises 1 queen bedroom, en-suite (bath and toilet, with the shower over the bath), another small bedroom with bunk beds, and a double sleeper couch in the lounge. Fan, Electric blanket & heater. We provide firewood for the fireplace and braai, should you wish to braai on charcoal, then please bring your own.
Any activity, Spa treatments, the 'Bush bath' can all be booked
during your stay.
IF YOU TAKE THE SELF CATERING OPTION YOU ARE WELCOME TO BOOK MEALS AND ACTIVITIES AT THE LODGE, WE SUPPLY FIREWOOD. DINNER IS A 4 COURSE MEAL R380.00 AND BREAKFAST IS R190.00 PER PERSON.

This self-catering unit has 2 bedrooms, one with a queen sized bed and the other can be a king sized bed or convert to 2 x single beds. Any activity and meals can be booked at the lodge.
We also offer a fan, electric blanket and heater, percale cotton duvets and linen, and fully equipped kitchen with a gas braai and Webber braai for outdoor cooking.
We supply firewood, should you wish to braai on charcoal, please bring your own.
Clay pigeon shooting, Spa treatments, the 'Bush bath' can all be booked during your stay.
