Head North from Johannesburg, and a mere 3 hour drive will bring you to Nungubane Game Lodge which lies in Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, at the heart of the spectacular Waterberg. The Waterberg, high in the Limpopo Province, is one of South Africa’s last unspoilt wildernesses.
Free from malaria, with a temperate climate, Welgevonden is a leading South African private game reserve.
Its 34000 hectares are home to the Big Five, including some 50 White Rhino, 16 species of antelope, a rich variety of other animals and some 250 species of birds.
Nungubane welcomes a maximum of ten guests in an atmosphere of intimate luxury. Guests are accommodated in spacious chalets, which command majestic views over the reserve from their individual decks.
Nungubane is known for the warmth of its welcome, the friendliness of its staff, and for its highly commended cuisine.
At dawn, listen to the sounds of the waking bush, and watch the sun light up the hills from the sparkle of your chalet’s outside shower. Enjoy a guided game drive each morning and afternoon, travelling some of Welgevonden’s 430 Kilometres of roads and tracks to discover the wildlife and the diverse and beautiful topography of the reserve. In the heat of the day, relax by the pool from where you can watch life unfold in the valley below.
Return from an afternoon game drive at nightfall to an excellent dinner, on the main lodge deck or round a blazing log fire in the boma, and relive your experiences of the day under the stars.

"Our party of three spent two great nights at Nungubane Game Lodge. ItÕs an intimate place and the limited number of guests adds to the experience of retreating to the bush. The rooms are spacious and luxurious and the staff helpful, friendly and produce some amazing meals. Of course the real reason for being there was the game and it didnÕt disappoint; cheetah, lion, rhino, elephant etc. I canÕt recommend it highly enough; weÕll be back for a hopeful rendezvous with leopard."
