Welcome to Mackaya Bella Lodge - We are located within the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Mountain Range, the highest in South Africa. Due to the incredible diversity of bird, plant and insect life, and a vast collection of San Rock Art paintings, the area has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Mackaya Bella Lodge is nestled below this unique mountain range. Time slows down as you enter our gate and a deep sense of peace and relaxation prevails, promising for a restful stay.
We have three exclusive stone clad cottages/rondawels under thatch. Each room is 18sqm. Each uniquely furnished and set in landscaped gardens. Each room has a queen size bed. Accommodating 2 people sharing. The rooms have an en-suite shower and separate toilets. We provide bathroom towels and guest amenities. Some rooms having their own verandas and mountain views. Optional extra; Single beds can be added to each room. (Total beds in room will then be 1 queen and 1 or 2 single beds) One room and the lodge are wheelchair friendly. All room have heating, fan, Flat screen TV, DStv satellite channels, and full bouquet. Tea, coffee facilities in each room. The rooms are only serviced on request. Rooms have 18 sq. metres of interior space, queen size bed, full DSTV bouquet, heating, fan and tea & coffee facilities.
Our lodge is elegant and cozy. Featuring a large screen TV with full DSTV bouquet, Njuni bar area, and lounges with a large fireplace. Our chef creates authentic menus that promise great tasting experiences, favouring local cuisine. Served in the dining area or on the sun deck.
Please note:
* Access to Mackaya Bella Lodge is on a Farm Road, concrete strips and dirt, not suitable for cars with a low ground clearance. High rise vehicles and 4×4 vehicles are recommended.
* We are about 3km from the main road, the R600 Vehicles with a low ground clearance do use the road daily but this would depend on your off road driving skills.
* Guests are requested to email/sms us two days before arrival to give us your estimated time of arrival.
* Free Wi-Fi.
* No pets are allowed.
* No smoking.
* No outside visitors will be allowed without prior consent.
* No excess noise at any time.
* Please inform us of any breakages.
* Lost property; Please make sure you check your room prior to leaving and remove all your personal belongings as we do not take responsibility for lost items. If any items are left behind these will be retained for 3 months only. It is your responsibility to arrange for collection.
* Items to bring with you, sun screen, insect repellent, sun hat, sun screen, hiking boots, good walking shoes/boots, rain jacket, warm jacket, swimming towels, swimming costume.
* The nearest village which has a full range of services is Winterton just over 30km away In the event of a power outage we cook on gas and have solar lanterns.
* The Oaks Supermarket is at Dragons Peaks, about 3km away. Petrol and diesel are available there. Please be aware we are in a nature conservation area surrounded by wildlife and indigenous vegetation.
*Peak Season isDecember, January and April 3 night minimum.
