Corne Du Plessis Horse Safaris
Lephalale (Ellisras)
Chalet, Self Catering
(4
rooms)
Blakeney is in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, approximately four hours’ drive north of Johannesburg and about five hours west of the Kruger National Park. The farm is in the northern Waterberg, 25km from the town of Lephalale (formerly known as Ellisras).
This 3,500ha privately owned reserve is in an unspoilt wilderness area, bordering the D’Nyala Nature Reserve.
With the Tambotie River running through it, the landscape includes bushveld, narrow valleys through steep gorges; also high cliffs and flat areas on top of the mountains.
The variety of landscape is because part of the reserve is in the typical Waterberg Mountain Bushveld with rocky outcrops and a shallow sandy soil and part of the reserve is Limpopo Sweet Bushveld which has a more open landscape with different types of trees growing. The Waterberg is steeped in history and some artifacts found here date back to Stone Age times.
Rock art paintings can be seen on the reserve.
You are invited to visit, relax and explore the reserve on horseback, on foot or by vehicle. There is much to appreciate on the reserve: the beauty of the place, the birds, magnificent trees and the wildlife. You will leave here feeling refreshed by the peace that will infuse your soul.
Safaris can be tailored for two or more people with a maximum of six adults plus six children. With this privacy it is ideal for family reunions.
Wildlife:
The animals seen can include giraffe, kudu, blue wildebeest, zebra, waterbuck, nyala, impala, bushbuck, mountain reedbuck, klipsprinter, monkeys, baboons, bush pig and warthog. Wild dogs have been spotted, as also has been brown hyena and leopard. Please note that game sightings cannot be guaranteed. Nocturnal life is also abundant.
The absence of any big game means that you are safe to walk and explore on your own making for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.
Accommodation:
You stay at the former farm house on Blakeney which has been beautifully renovated. The river runs in front of the house and the gardens and patio are a beautiful place to relax during the day. There are three ensuite bedrooms:
A spacious room in the main house has a large king size bed, sitting area with separate bathroom and shower.
A separate chalet, with large picture window looking down the valley, has a large king size bed and bathroom and shower.
The third bedroom has its own entrance from the garden and has two separate beds and shower and loo.
There is also a bunk room sleeping four which shares a bathroom with another room with two beds.
