Magic Hills Private Collection
Graaff-Reinet
Safari/Game Lodge
(9
rooms)
Wilderness. Wellness. Wildlife.
Magic Hills Private Collection Game Reserve is an unspoiled wilderness sanctuary tucked away into a secluded corner of the boundlessly beautiful Great Karoo. With breathtaking views as far as the eye can see, Magic Hills beckons on modern-day pioneers to embark on a lavish journey of mental and physical resuscitation, personal indulgence and wild adventures.
Ilanga Manor House is a classic Cape Dutch farmhouse reminiscent of a bygone era, which has been restored to its former glory. With a plunging thatched roof typical of a Karoo farmhouse, the lodge is a rambling home to ten spacious suites, each with views onto the lush, manicured gardens and the contrasting wilderness just beyond. Rich tones of timber flooring and thatch ceiling contrast the crisp white linen and bright natural night. Ilanga Manor House accommodates guests in traditional old-world hospitality and charm.
A crystalline outdoor swimming pool offers a refreshing respite from the Karoo heat, while a short drive to the Magic Hills spa, at the nearby Sky Lodge, delivers treatments that rejuvenate and ease weary muscles and minds. Boma nights give our guests a true South African braai experience, allowing them to swap stories over open flames and delicious, traditional food.
Magic Hills is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including the Big Five, the iconic cheetah, towering giraffes and large herds of wild game. Daily adventures into the reserve take travellers on Big Five game drives or game walks on foot with a skilled guide. Our hikes also include the Cheetah Walk, tracking down land’s fastest hunter, and the Rhino Walk, a truly magical encounter with these endangered, African beasts.
Although renowned for its wildlife and conservation efforts, Magic Hills also offers Ilanga Manor House guests the opportunity to jump-start their adrenaline with rock climbing and abseiling. Journey back in time with an excursion to recently-discovered rock art sites, to step into the lives of the tribes that walked this rugged land many centuries ago.
Try your hand at target archery or clay pigeon shooting, with a skilled marksman as your guide, or participate in our thicket restoration project and contribute to saving our ecosystem, and the planet.
At Magic Hills, and Ilanga Manor House, it is our mission to seamlessly facilitate our guests’ connection with Mother Nature and their own inner adventurer, often suppressed by the stresses of daily, urban life. Under the scattering of stars and galaxies of “Dark Sky Country” and the wide-open, breezy air of “Big Sky Country”, allow us to give you the time and space to breathe and just be.
