For the most discerning of all bushlovers, The River Lodge at Thornybush is situated in the Thornybush Private Game Reserve. Nestled on the banks of the Timbavati River this stunning lodge combines old world charm and decor with arguably the best Big 5 viewing in Africa.
The reserve is currently almost 15000 hectares (35000 acres) in extent and covers a range of vegetation biomes.
The naturally rich vegetation ensures a very healthy carrying capacity of large mammals and predators. Elephants, White and Black Rhino, Buffalo and Hippos make up the larger species of herbivores, while a range of plains game abounds such as Giraffe, Kudu, Zebra, Wildebeest, Nyala, Bushbuck, Impala and smaller species. Predators are made up of Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild Dog and Hyena with smaller species such as Jackal, Civet and Caracal also common. All in all Thornybush has more than a hundred species of mammals present. Thornybush is also home to a significant amount of bird species more than 100 occur here. Some worth mentioning consist of the Swallow Tail Bee Eater, Martial Eagles, Fish Eagle etc.
Our rooms are designed and decorated with comfortable opulence in mind. They are generous in size with large beds and welcoming couches covered in quality linens. The added features of air conditioning, outside shower, wireless connectivity, and splash pool on your private deck provides the backdrop for a perfect bush retreat. The thatched suites are free standing and completely private. Birdsong and the Cicada Beetle in the day and Harmonising Baritone and Reed Frogs in the evening are the only sounds that are constant. Nothing has been spared in creating the perfect environment in which to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Establishment facilities/services include a swimming pool and game drives.
Rates include accommodation, all meals, tea, coffee, snacks, dawn & dusk safaris in open game vehicles, optional bushveld walks and sundowner drinks on game drives.
