"Every now and then we find a place to stay that is so outstanding that all we can do is sit back and say 'Wow!’ Such is Gowan Valley Guest Farm. From the minute you drive on to the property, it takes your breath away. The main thatched house looks like it should be on a chocolate box, with beautiful gardens, mature trees, a rushing stream, green lawns and the nicest welcome one could wish for. We stayed in River Cottage which I think is #7, and the décor is absolutely stunning. The current owners were away but we were warmly welcomed by Florrie and also by Tessa and Terry, parents of Deanna, who could not do more for us. We had what for us was 'lousy' weather but for local people was a blessing since the long drought finally broke, but we were made to feel so at home that it mattered not one bit. Breakfast was served in the charming river cottage dining area and Tessa gave us two excellent recommendations for dining in the evening, plus an extensive run-down on places to visit and things to do during the day. Cavesham Mill provided an excellent family-style meal in a beautiful setting overlooking a lovely waterfall, and La Lampara served up generous and tasty Italian food which was simply delicious. We would greatly recommend the whole experience to anyone looking for affordable luxury, beautiful surroundings and really friendly, welcoming hosts."
