The Retreat is an old Victorian farmhouse in the lovely Groenfontein Valley Conservancy, bordering on the 129.000ha Swartberg Nature Reserve and situated 20kms northeast of Calitzdorp on a scenic, winding gravel road, 59kms northwest of Oudtshoorn, and 38kms southwest of the Cango Caves, both half gravel, just off the magical Route 62.
4 garden rooms, 2 suites in a converted milking-shed with spectacular views of the mountains, sitting-areas with fireplace, Victorian bath and shower, a main bedroom with king-size beds that can be made up as twins, and a second bedroom with 2 single beds and 2 garden rooms in a converted weaving-shed, with spectacular views of the mountains, king-size beds which can be made up as twins, sitting-areas with fireplace, 1 with Victorian bath and shower, the smaller with shower only. We have 4 comfortable en-suite bedrooms in the main house leading onto a patio, also with a lounge and dining room - each with a fireplace - leading onto the verandah overlooking the sweeping gardens and majestic Swartberg.
We enjoy treating guests to true Klein-Karoo hospitality with hearty breakfasts and traditional home-cooked dinners served with a continental touch. Vegetarians are welcome and we cater for problem diets. Please let us know if you have any allergies or intolerances. We have a full liquor licence and carry a selection of wines from the region.
Enjoy peaceful walks along the charming lanes of the Groenfontein Valley, climb into the foothills of the Swartberg, or simply relax at the pool and let the peace and silence soak into your soul.

* Please specify age of child when booking. Children under the age of 12 are served supper before their parents, and may then watch a video while the adults enjoy dinner.
* Child (max 1) sleeping in a standard room with parents charged for meals only at a rate per year of age (up to age 12.
* Rates for children sleeping in their own room available on request. We don't confirm our 4 luxury rooms for only 1 night but if they should be available when you come you will be offered an upgrade at a higher rate.
