An escape from the city within the city
As soon as you open the wooden gates, it’s hard to believe you’re still in the city centre. You discover a magnificent 19th-century farm building set in a garden dotted with antique tables and chairs under old pomegranate, guava, avocado and olive trees. And that’s what makes La Grenadine so special: just outside this idyllic setting is a vibrant neighbourhood (Kloof Street) full of restaurants, coffee shops, young South African designers, a wellness centre, cinemas, galleries and museums…
Modern meets vintage
Originally from France, we fell in love with Cape Town some years ago and decided to stay. As we both come from artistic backgrounds (Mélodie in performance, tango and theatre, and Maxime in music), we decided to take on the massive task of transforming what was a quaint farmstead into today’s eye-catching layout. Employing the best of local design talent, we had a lot of fun matching vintage and modern as we individually designed five beautiful en-suite bedrooms in a unique mix of industrial and French Provençal styles.
La Grenadine’s spirit
We see La Grenadine not merely as a guesthouse, but – whether it’s in the form of a debate in front of a wintry fire, or a summer evening party that moves to the music of our extensive record collection – as a home away from home. We’d like you to see it that way too. Feel free to borrow a book from our eclectic collection and read it in the orchard, select your favourite jazz or soul record, sip tea from antique Meakin crockery, or snuggle under French hand-embroidered linen while watching a DVD.
Social responsibility
We’re environmentally conscious too: wherever possible, the guesthouse is environment-friendly, with low-usage plumbing, solar panels and efficient heating keeping energy consumption to a minimum, while 1% of turnover goes to NGOs, charities and other worthy causes.
We look forward to welcoming you at La Grenadine…Read More ›
