Steynshoop Mountain Lodge is a luxury house on a private estate, beautifully situated on an elevated site in the scenic Magaliesberg Valley near Hekpoort. It has superb views of the magnificent mountain range, cliffs and bush surroundings of the Magaliesberg Nature Reserve, of which it forms part.
The lodge's bedrooms are all en-suite and luxuriously appointed with air-conditioning, DSTV and DVD players.
Many of our guests comment that it has a uniquely “Out of Africa” feel. It is an exclusive and intimate guest lodge with understated, elegant interiors. The lodge, an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria, falls within a world heritage site.
Guests have access to a kilometre of the magnificent mountain range on the estate, for walks and hiking. Arrangements may be made for longer hikes over the adjoining extensive area owned by the Mountain Club of South Africa which includes famous sites such as the Castle Gorge (provided that they are accompanied by a guide from the lodge).
The entire estate is situated within the proclaimed Magaliesberg Nature Reserve. It is full of natural bush vegetation, including thousands of wild protea trees, and has extensive natural game including bush buck, nyala, mountain reedbuck, warthogs, baboons, monkeys and leopard.
Birdlife is extensive. There are frequent sightings of eagles and vultures from a nearby cliff colony. Jackal and hyena cries, baboon barks and sounds of the surrounding wildlife are prolific.
Steynshoop Mountain Lodge provides the ideal break from city life and stress - drift off to the sounds of the African bush and awaken to a chorus of birds. Enjoy a quiet drink and look out for Nyala, bushbuck or mountain reedbuck coming to drink at the game waterhole, overlooked by the gazebo.
If you wish to discover totally private tranquillity with superior service Steynshoop Mountain Lodge is a rare find.
