Coral Tree Colony B & B
Southbroom
Guest house
(6
rooms)
(13 customer reviews)
This modern, very comfortable Guest House has six double, en suite bedrooms, each with its own separate entrance, large, private verandah, extra long king size or twin beds with pure cotton percale linen & duvets, air conditioning & ceiling fans, TV & fridge, tea & coffee tray and hairdryer. The views are down Southbroom Golf Course's 12th & 13th Fairways, all the way to a breaker view of the Indian Ocean.
Situated in the tranquil village of Southbroom on the KwaZulu Natal Lower South Coast, Coral Tree has become an iconic landmark - an architect designed and purpose-built, modern colonial building with wrap-around verandahs highly suitable for the sub-tropical climate.
The large breakfast and lounge area opens onto the breakfast patio and indigenous garden. Guests are welcome to use the Guest Kitchen to prepare lunch and / or dinner. Breakfast times can stretch from early to late morning - with Chef Dave in attendance - designed to fit in with guest activities, whether an early morning round of golf or a lazy day on the beach.
Southbroom is not all about golf! There are three magnificent beaches within the village coastline. Popular with swimmers and surfers alike, the main swimming area has a broad, sandy beach with plenty of space to plant an umbrella and some comfortable beach chairs. There's also a grassy, terraced bank and lookout point. A little further south from here is Grannies Pool - a delightful cove with a tidal pool, rock pools and easy access via a boardwalk. Still further south is uMkobi Beach at the north end of Marina Beach's Blue Flag beach. A large number of whales make their way up and back down the coast from May to November to their winter breeding and feeding grounds off Mocambique. Dolphins are often seen and one of the world's best shark diving sites, Protea Banks, lies offshore at Shelly Beach.
A couple of world class restaurants in the village and next door in quaint Ramsgate are well worth a visit, as are the numerous coffee shops and curio shops up and down the coast. Ten minutes from Southbroom, north on the R61 brings one to the coast's shopping hub of Shelly Beach.
Perfect for a golfing getaway, with Southbroom's Pro Shop and Club House an easy five minute walk from Coral Tree. The Club was voted the "Most Fun to Play Course in South Africa" in 2012. It was listed as one of South Africa's Top Ten Jewels last year and the resident professional, Derek James, has been named as the "Top Teacher of the Year" on a number of occasions.
The management at Coral Tree are always happy to help with booking tee-off times and suggestions on where to play on which days so as to maximise their guests' enjoyment and value. With eight incredible courses within easy driving distance of Southbroom, guests are spoilt for choice when deciding which course to play.
Southbroom is an integral part of the Paradise of the Zulu Kingdom with incredible indenous trees and shrubs, an amazing number of birds - both vocal and colourful - and a number of shy antelope species and various small mammals. The blue and red duiker are endemic to the area and can occasionally be seen on the side of the road or on one of the Nature Trails. There are three Hiking Trails within the village boundaries - through the forests, down to the Imbezane River, or along the Coastal Dune.
