Gum Tree Glen is set in the blissful ambience of KwaZulu-Natal's Midlands and its famous Meander. Just a stone's throw from Curry's Post and 10 minutes from Howick with its abundant shopping and legendary waterfalls, as well as Midmar Dam and the famous Sappi mountain bike trails. It overlooks the glorious Karkloof Valley and is surrounded by farmlands and fields of green.
We have a quaint, wood and iron styled two bedroom two bathroom cottage, with a large veranda and superb views over the Karkloof valley (there is also a sleeper couch in the lounge), and which is fenced and pet friendly (it is called WRINKLY TIN COTTAGE).
In the smaller, Studio unit attached to the main house, there is a compact open plan unit with a queen sized bed (with a sleeper couch in the lounge area) and a kitchenette with stove, fridge and microwave. Braai facilities are available. In the bathroom where towels are provided, there is a shower only, no bath.
If they’re lucky, guests will enjoy sightings of duiker and reedbuck; hear the call of the fish eagles, and perhaps even spot porcupine and jackal in the nearby forests. Birding is a popular pastime here, as is walking.
We are close to the popular Sappi MTB trails and the Karkloof Polo club, a short drive/cycle away, is a great gathering place for events, lunches, bike rides and walking trails.
Gum Tree Glen supplies towels, fresh milk, tea, coffee, sugar and rusks to overnight guests, and for those staying longer, delicious free-range farm eggs, and bread and butter.
We look forward to welcoming you!
Please note:
- We take a minimum of two night’s bookings on long weekends.

"My wife and I planned a long weekend away and undoubtedly we booked Gum Tree Glen. On arrival we were warm heartedly greeted by our hosts Peta and Jordan who made us feel relaxed and comfortable. We stayed at the Studio cottage which is clean, neat and tidy, cozy and spacious with soft linen, duvets and pillows. The extras provided in the kitchen with farm fresh milk, fruit juice, eggs, bread, butter, rusks, biscuits and sherry to warm the cold evenings was very welcoming. The views from the cottage is absolutely stunning with the surrounding farms and landscapes, while the area itself is quiet and peaceful just what is expected to rejuvenate body and soul. Close enough to shops and restaurants in Howick and the Howick Falls and Midmar Dam. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gum Tree Glen and will return soon with other family members and will definitely recommend to others. Thank you Peta and Jordan for everything and to make our stay a memorable one. Not forgetting RoomsForAfrica for making our booking simple and hassle free. "
