Oakhurst Farm Cottages offers a luxury, self catering accommodation for groups, families and couples near Wilderness in the Garden Route.
The farm is one of a few remaining, large working farms along the Garden route. Covering 640 hectares, 200 of which is pristine fynbos and indigenous forest, the farm is today run commercially by the Crowther family, sixth generation descendants of the original purchaser, Henry Dumbleton.
Our 150 year old blacksmith forge has been lovingly transformed into the ideal escape for couples and families looking for peace and quiet and something different.
The main bedroom has a double bed. The other beds are singles located in the loft. Beautiful white percale linen and sheets, snug white dressing gowns, handmade quilts and a great assortment of reading books to choose from, the list is endless. A unique bathroom with an open shower, overlooking the river and forest. So there is no need for TV at the Forge but there is internet access.
We offer a number of outdoor and farm based activities on Oakhurst Farm. Be sure to pack some good walking shoes, there are a number of short to medium distance walking trails within the indigenous forest areas on the farm, including a short walk to some spectacular waterfalls. Historical sites to visit include the Oakhurst Chapel and the perfectly intact Oakhurst water mill, built by Walter Dumbleton in 1887 and fed by a ten-inch cast iron pipe from a storage dam above the mill site. Guests are also welcome to visit our dairy during milking times, by prior arrangement. Birders will enjoy our large farm dam, where a number of species can be sighted. The dam also offers an appealing spot for a farm picnic. The surrounding area has a host of options to keep you busy - we will gladly assist you in arranging horse riding trips, kloofing excursions, canoeing and can supply information and suggestions on any of the surrounding day hikes available.
Oakhurst Farm is situated inland of the Wilderness Lakes along the Garden Route coast. There are a number of hiking, cycling a walking trails both on the farm and in the surrounding area. The farm is within a 15 minute drive from the beach at Wilderness, George and Knysna are within 30 minutes driving distance.

The cottage is quaint and comfortable. However, for us, the best was having coffee and rusks on the deck, with the early morning sun and the abundance of birds in the forest in front of us - very special.
The setting is lovely; the cottages face the forest and there are walks through the forest to the dam and the waterfall. The farm is an enormous diary farm which one has to drive through to get to the cottages.
I would recommend Oakhurst to others, especially those with young children!
