Historically once Mozambique’s mighty trading centre, today the island still has ancient forts and beautiful architecture to explore.
The lodge overlooks the bay where you can watch traditional dhows sail out to sea on each high tide and the sun sets directly in front offering magnificent views.
The lodge consists of 3 original and beautifully restored mansions each over 100 years old. Each of the 14 rooms are individually designed and has maintained its old charm with high lofty ceilings and hand crafted 4 poster beds and locally crafted furniture. There are three swimming pools, tropical gardens and the sound of palm trees on the breeze. Everyone’s favourite spot is the roof terrace restaurant and bar that serves cocktails under the stars. The waters surrounding Ibo Island host some of the most beautiful uninhabited islands, and beaches in the Archipelago, and the sand bank beach that guests boat out to each day is truly stunning and offers a totally unique beach experience.
Ibo Island Lodge is a very popular choice and includes a number of activities in the rate such as historical & cultural tours of the island, snorkelling and unguided kayaking. Beautifully restored large historic rooms with wide verandas at the rear of the Niassa mansion. Featuring a 4 poster king size bed, fan, ensuite bathroom with twin basins and a lounge area that can be converted into a small children bedroom.
All rooms look out onto the tropical garden and pool and have en-suite marble showers and twin basins.
Large verandas feature comfortable chairs to soak up the sun and watch the birds that swoop down to drink from the Niassa dip pool which is just a few steps away. All four garden rooms have ensuite marble showers and twin basins.
