Melville Turret Guesthouse
Melville
Guest house
(9
rooms)
(3 customer reviews)
The Melville Turret is a landmark building in Melville, Johannesburg and was built in 1906 by Erik
van den Berg who owned a bicycle shop in downtown Johannesburg.
Over the years the house has been used for many purposes; private residence, boarding house,
architects offices, back packers lodge and now a guest house.
The house has recently been renovated, with a mix of the old and new, traditional and
contemporary, with the end result being an eclectic mix, but still remaining true to the original
splendor and glory of the property.
Step into parts of the house and you will feel you are walking into part of the history of a bygone era, with ceilings that are 4 meters high and wooden floors and then into some of the modern bedrooms with their contemporary but rather luxurious linen.
The house is stylishly decorated to create a warm and homely atmosphere for the enjoyment of guests. Our rooms are all en-suite with under floor heating, telephones, TV & MNet (satellite television), tea and coffee. Our rooms are all smoke free but you are welcome to smoke on the veranda.
We have also added a loft room in the attic which measures 44 square metres. This room is ultra luxurious with skylights, air conditioner, sitting area, dining room & chairs, modern kitchenette and large bathroom with views over Johannesburg. This room is very popular with our regular guests and early booking is recommended.
Children are welcome and we have a camper cot for babies to sleep in.
Freshly brewed coffee is available all day long, telephone and wireless internet connection is available in all rooms. Printing and faxing facilities are available at reception. We have parking available for seven cars and security is excellent.
Vibey and trendy 7th Street is just a few minutes away by foot, with its bars, restaurants, bookshops and bohemian people. There are more then 20 restaurants and bars in 7th street and surrounds.
Guests (both local and foreign) return time and time again to the Melville Turret, due to the warm South African hospitality, friendly staff and great locality.
