Bushwhacked is situated in Barberton, an hour's drive from the Kruger National Park and Swaziland and only a four hour drive from OR Tambo airport in Johannesburg. Ideally placed for an overnight stop between Game Reserves and the coast.
Bushwhacked consists of a self-catering guesthouse and three separate chalets. Close to but just outside of the World Heritage Geological site and Historic Gold Rush town of Barberton, backing onto an uninhabited valley, with spectacular views.
Accommodation is offered in four clean and comfortable double/twin rooms in the main Bushwhacked house, all of which have free uncapped WiFi and access to a fully equipped kitchen, (gas stove, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, tea, coffee, sugar) lounge and dining area. Some of the rooms also have a private seating area. Two of the bedrooms in the main house have ensuite bathrooms and two share a bathroom. Linen, towels and liquid soap are provided. There is a stoep with braai/barbeque overlooking spectacular sunset and valley views. Parking is off the road and secure.
Skip's Shack is a secluded, self-contained stone cottage. Ideal for 1 to 2 persons and is furnished with one double bed. The unit features an ensuite shower room, kitchenette, sofa and fan. Private braai facilities overlook the mountains.
The Woodshed family chalet, is fully self-contained with one double bedroom and open-plan area with bunk beds, single bed and a double mattress in the loft space. There is a fully equipped kitchen, lounge with open fireplace, dining area, and private braai facilities. It can accommodate up to 6 guests.
Hippo Hideaway is another private chalet with both a double and a single bed in an open plan setting (1-3 guests). Ensuite shower room with toilet. Lounge area, fully equipped kitchen and private patio with braai and mountain views.
There are some lovely walks directly up from Bushwhacked, into the mountains and valleys behind us.
The World Heritage GeoTrail scenic drive up towards Swaziland showcases both ancient geological formations and the more recent gold mining past. You can visit the Barberton museum and some of the old gold rush houses from the 1880's that have been restored to original condition, with period furniture. Head off on a tour of a goldmine and try your hand at panning gold! There are seven working gold mines in the Barberton mountains, one of which, Sheba, is still regarded as one of the richest in the world.
