Sunbird Guest House, offering graded accommodation, is situated 1.5km off the N3 on tar road, in a beautiful country environment with a high standard of privacy and security. Your host Nicky lives in the garden cottage connected by an intercom, keeping the personal touch.
Howick is the hub of the Midlands waterfall country, 20 minutes from Pietermaritzburg (the capital of KwaZulu Natal) and 1 hour from Durban, Southern Drakensberg and the Sani Pass.
Relax in our quiet landscaped bird and Japanese garden or after a long day’s journey or outing, you can rejuvenate and experience the beneficial effects in our private superior spa jacuzzi (small fee to cover usage), or sunbathe on our private lawn.
An English breakfast (alternatives served by prior request) in the communal log cabin type outdoor gazebo. Braai/barbeque facilities are also available. We have a courtesy fridge with soft drinks etc.. There are many restaurants in the area and a shopping centre with Spar Supermarket (including the Tops Bottle Store), ATM’s, post office, butcher and hair dressers close by.
DSTV is also available as well as off street parking with remote controlled access. We have ADSL connection for email and internet facilities plus a computer and fax.
We have a fully equipped 2 bedroom self-catering garden cottage looking onto a Japanese garden. It has as a separate vehicle entrance with remote controlled access. One room has a queen bed and one has a double bed. It has a bathroom with shower over bath, lounge and dining area and a fully equipped kitchen. The cottage has not yet been graded but is of a high standard.
Some possible activities to do:
• View the wonder of +100m Howick Falls (half to 1 day).
• Midmar Dam within the 1600 hectare Nature Reserve (half to 1 day).
• Make a day hike or just drive in the Umgeni Valley Reserve and experience Africa’s wildlife and bush splendour (half to 1 day).
• Tour the award winning Art and Craft related Midlands Meander route and enjoy one of South Africa’s best country farming regions (1 to 2 days).
• See the Southern Drakensberg range with an opportunity to go up Sani Pass (1day).
• Golf at two very close courses.
• Other sports nearby are tennis, squash, bowls, hot air ballooning, hang gliding and water sports. Karkloof Canopy Tours is also available.
