"We visited Jaci's Safari Lodge as repeat guests, having visited Jaci's Tree Lodge a year ago. We have visited other establishments in Madikwe previously as well. I'm sure we will visit again.
Jaci's location makes it an easily accessible drive for a long week-end, as it is situated close to the Molatedi Gate and it is not necessary to drive all the way around via Zeerust, which takes much longer ( just be aware, that the GPS keeps to want to point one in the direction of Zeerust-so get directions to the lodge!)
The feel of Madikwe is that of a private game reserve, except that Lodge's have right of way anywhere in the park and not only in a small area, as is the norm in a lot of other private game reserves in South-Africa.
Although it is a national park, entrance is only allowed if one stays at one of the 31 establishments inside.
Jaci's lodges stand out, as they offer value for money. Dinner is included in the rate, Bed, Brunch and high tea, as well as two game drives with an experienced guide on a game viewing vehicle.
The lodge has very much a family feel, and while we were there, a few fellow guests with young children were also visiting. Only children over 5 years can accompany the adults on game drives, but babysitting services are available for younger children.
The air was already slightly chilly, and the rooms were very cosy-under floor heating, electric blankets, a huge bath for the evenings and an outside shower for daytime.
On the game drives, we were treated with hot water bottles and blanket but warm clothing is advised for the winter months.
Madikwe has diverse beautiful landscapes, and game viewing is guaranteed to be good and exciting, hosting not only the big five ( of which Lion, elephant and White Rhino sightings are often), but also cheetah and wild dog. On a "slow" day, concentrate on the diverse and rich bird life, and a game drive will never be boring!
The food at the lodge was excellent, and we were rolling away by the time we left-early morning wake up is coffee with homemade toast and porridge.
Brunch after the morning game drive consists of continental and full English breakfast choices and more. High tea before the afternoon game drive are savoury and sweet treats and Dinner in the evenings can be anything from a braai, bush dinner (in the bush-excellent!) to a three course sit-down meal.
We treated ourselves one morning after brunch to massages in the spa-so relaxing with the sounds of the bush lulling one away.
Although we had only stayed for a long week-end, we drove away feeling rejuvenated, as if we had had a long vacation!

"From the moment I made reservations, to the greeting at the entrance via the swinging bridge, the staff and management anticipated all our needs, including those we were not even aware of! The food is excellent. The rangers are very knowledgeable on the game drives. And the accommodations are unique -- luxurious while still retaining the sense of being in the bush."
