Groot Sleutelfontein Private Game Reserve is situated near the picturesque Victorian town of Prince Albert in the Great Karoo, some 440km from Cape Town and 160km from George. We provide the ideal destination for a family holiday or a corporate breakaway.
Nestled against the northern slopes of the mighty Swartberg Mountains, the reserve covers more than 10 000ha (24 710 acres) with no internal fencing.
Game on the reserve includes Kudu, Springbuck, Gemsbuck, Blesbuck, Eland, Redhartebeest, Burchell's Zebra, Giraffe, Ostrich, Roan, Sable, Blue Wildebeest & Waterbuck, as well as many exotic species (i.e. golden gemsbok and copper springbuck). Other animals include Brown Hyena, Black Backed Jackal, Bat-eared Fox, Aardvark, Porcupine, Meerkat, etc. Bird species include Black Eagle, Booted Eagle, Jackal Buzzard, Pale Chanting Goshawk, Rock kestrel, Owl, Fish Eagle, etc. These can be viewed with the reserve’s well-equipped game drive vehicles. Our professional game rangers are available to interpret your experience and guide you on drives or on walking trails.
We also offer wonderful activities like clay pigeon shooting, San rock art viewing and Karoo star gazing. Mountain bikers find our terrain a fantastic adventure, irrespective of skill and fitness levels.
The lodge consists of 3 separate units and 4 separate ensuite rooms. A max of 19 guests can be accommodated. The crisp swimming pool provide a refreshing plunge after an open air drive through the reserve. All of your meals are catered for, and you can expect true Karoo hospitality and hearty Karoo meals. The shared living and dining areas are equipped with a large fireplace/braai area, and this has led to many fantastic evenings of recollecting the thrill of the day’s experiences.
The lodge offer satellite TV for lazy in-between moments, and cell phone signal in certain areas. Our private airplane and airstrip on the reserve can be utilised to ease travelling arrangements, at an extra cost. To diversify your activities, nearby Prince Albert offers a vast array of cultural experiences, from the little art deco theatre to restaurants, coffee shops and olive tastings.
