"We actually rented the entire backpackers,accommodation was great but we had strangers hanging out at the accommodation,not nice to wake up to strangers sitting on the couches when you rent the entire place. Apparently there is accommodation next door,would of been nice if we were told about this."

There are some reasonable restaurants and take away places close by too. I met some interesting people and the backpackers does a lot to provide entertainment of sorts. The backpackers also provides a base for volunteers, who teach underprivileged children. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would stay there again."

As well as making us feel very comfortable whilst I perched myself at the bar every night, they also helped with organaising taxis and tours around local places of intrest. Top marks to you all.

"My family and I recently took a trip to Cape Town and because I've stayed in a lot of Backpackers I wanted my kids to experience the "vibe" of a backpackers as well.
They are only 13 and 9 years old respectively, probably not the main target market for backpackers, and in the past I've also stayed in some pretty dodgy backpackers.
The facilities at Saltycrax were top-notch, the room was clean and spacious enough for the four of us, bedding linen was clean and fresh, the bathroom was neat and clean, there was even a mini fridge in the room.
Keep in mind that my wife is a bit of a neat freak (there have been instances where she simply refused to stay at certain places because it did not meet her standards), so it says a lot that even she was happy and comfortable.
Even though there is a bar on the premises and people were having a good old time and happy vibes there were no late parties that got out of hand, important when you have impressionable kids with you.
Overall we only used Saltycrax as a base from which to explore Cape Town and although it is not dead centre in town its location provides easy access to all the main attractions, there are some really nice restaurants within walking distance and on the beach and all the other services like a laundry just around the corner and within walking distance of the rapid transit metro busses.
Overall I rate Saltycrax as an excellent establishment if you are, like us, on a budget but still looking for a clean, comfortable and friendly place to stay.
