Luxury self-catering with wildlife on your doorstep. In Zulu, Cambalala means relax, so as you’d expect we’ve tucked our chalets away in a quiet corner of the Lodge grounds. That’s not to say you’ll be undisturbed. Graceful impala and playful vervet monkeys are frequent visitors to Units 1 and 4, bringing South Africa’s famous wildlife right to your doorstep. Overlooking a small dam, you might be lucky enough to spot a baby croc from Unit 2. Unit 3 stands alongside a stream shaded by trees, making this a popular choice with the area’s birdlife as they seek respite from the sun. Whichever you choose, put your feet up, light up the braai on your spacious private deck and wait for nature to come to you. In all we have four units; each can comfortably accommodate six adults and two children. All are furnished in contemporary style to a high standard with free WI-FI access. There’s a master bedroom on the ground floor with a double bed and ensuite bathroom, as well as a separate twin room adjacent to a second bathroom. Upstairs, there’s a spacious loft area with its own living area which can sleep four; with two singles and a bunk bed, this is perfect for the kids. It’s even got its own TV so they don’t hog the one downstairs. Air-conditioning ensures that you’ll get a decent night’s sleep, even on the hottest nights of summer. If you choose to visit in winter, the units are heated, and though that’s rarely necessary, it’s good to know it’s there if you need it. We’ve thought about storage too. Instead of having to live out of a suitcase, you’ll find fitted wardrobes as well as dressing tables with mirrors. There’s a hairdryer as well.

Each of our four chalets offers a high standard of accommodation at an affordable price. They sleep eight, perfect for a family or a group of friends, and they’re close together if you want to book all four for a larger gathering. Air-conditioning is standard and with fully equipped kitchen, bedrooms designed with comfort in mind and cosy living rooms, this is your home away from home. There’s a loft in each chalet, sleeping four; with its own television and comfy couch the kids can have their own space, leaving you in peace. There are two bathrooms so there’ll be no need to queue and we know it’s important to have a shower and a bath, so we fitted both. But it’s the finishing touches that really make a difference, so we’ll supply fresh linen, towels and the all-important hairdryer. Daily cleaning is included too and that includes the braai, of course. Who wants to spend their vacation making the bed?

Cambalala’s location means you’ll never be short of things to do. Within Kruger Park Lodge, there’s so much choice you could be forgiven for not wishing to step out at all. If you don’t want to ditch your fitness routine, you’ll be happy to learn there are designated jogging routes, as well as nature trails if you wish to wander at a more leisurely pace. You’ll find three swimming pools, a kids’ playground with trampoline and giant chess. And you don’t have to stop just because the sun’s gone down. The four tennis courts are floodlit at night though you’ll probably want to change out of your gear to watch the evening entertainment if you visit in peak season. Of course, we’ll forgive you if you prefer to sit back and relax with a drink on your private deck and light up the braai.

"We stayed at Cambalala for 11 nights and had a wonderful stay. Not only is the unit very attractively decorated with a touch of Africa, everything you could possible need is provided with a daily cleaning service. The pools nearby were wonderful for relaxing and reading your book especially after a busy day game viewing in the Kruger National Park (Phabeni Gate was 10minutes away). We made use of the resort facilities restaurants, golf, walking trails, laundry, hippo hide and braai evening which again were all to a high standard and cannot be faulted in any way. The staff were always attentive and gave a great service. There were shops nearby for groceries and lovely curio shops at the nearby Perry' Bridge. A short drive away is the Elephant sanctuary which it is advised that you book in advance for your visit, and the breathtaking Three Rondavels, Gods Window, Borkes Luck Potholes and Blyde River Canyon which are all a must see. During our stay here we felt totally relaxed and at one with nature. Waking up to the birds singing in the trees and the impala grazing on the grasses nearby and dozing off at night to the frogs chorus calls at the nearby waterholes...a truly magical experience and everything lived up to Our African Dream Holiday. Thank you to all concerned."
