Set in the exquisite Brandwater Basin in the foothills of the magnificent Maluti Mountain range, Shumba Valley farm is a perfect playground for lovers of the great outdoors. The Eastern Free State has it all. Our summer is glorious, not too hot with gorgeous long temperate evenings, getting dark at 7.30pm. In the spring, the countryside is a mass of wonderful spring greens as the countryside changes. Valleys of fruit blossoms delight the eye. In autumn a golden hue with an array of orange and amber delights travellers from afar. Photographers flock to the area to snap the delightful contrasts, and in winter, snow can be found close by in Lesotho and very often, the opportunity to play in it on the farm!

Shumba Valley offers many outdoor activities. Quad and off road bike riders delight in playing on some of the finest trails in South Africa. Horse riders from all over the world participate in our exciting 4 - 10 day riding packages, or one can just book for a quiet 1- 5 hr ride. 4x4 enthusiasts come from all parts of South Africa to tackle the challenge of our Lesotho Trails, and photographers and artists enjoy the vistas, the tranquillity and the awesome landscapes. Accommodation at Shumba Valley is very comfortable, offering both B&B accommodation and Self-catering Cottages. We also cater for caravaners and campers in our small sociable camp site with the most amazing views and stunning newly built ablutions.

The quaint little town of Clarens is not far from the farm where great golf is on offer, wonderful shops and art galleries and very good restaurants. In winter the ski resort is packed with snow and only 87km from the farm. Cherries and cherry products can be bought in nearby Ficksburg in the season, October - mid December.

"Me and my wife were treated like Royalty at Shumba Valley Guest Farm.
Where we would otherwise have been alone on Old Year's Eve, the management treated us like family at a braai and then took us up a mountain in their 4 x 4 to overlook Lesotho and enjoy the fireworks show in Lesotho from the top of the mountain. They cracked the Champagne at midnight and we had a party up there!

Everything at the Guest farm runs like clockwork.
It has exceeded my expectations by far!"
