"A nice, comfortable stay in a beautiful area.
Peaceful and quiet."

"Comfort in a beautiful ienvironment"

Arthur Chapman

"We stayed in the main cottage, it was comfortable and well appointed. The shade of the gums on the one side was very welcome on a hot afternoon. Walking in the hills and swimming in the pools in the river is highly recommended. "

Kim Goeller

"As above , Denise gave us a wonderful dinner, a real treat! We walked, bird watched , read and relaxed!"

"The nature experience"

Mike Durrant

"We loved Lupela. The quietness and natural beauty was amazing. The Silo, where we stayed, was very comfortable (not recommended for people that battle with stairs) and had everything we needed. Beds were great!"

"Beautiful evening in a tranquil setting"

"My only negative comment is that the kitchen doesn't have enough knives for serious cooking!"

"We stayed in the Silo cottage. It is very interesting and beautifully built. We had a nice view of the river. I enjoyed the natural night sounds of the farm. I did not hear any cars."

"Stopover at Lupela"

(South Africa) Gerrit Broos

"Ons verblyf was baie aangenaam maar ons voel dat hulle gerus kan waarsku dat die toegangsroete van 5 km, eintlik nie geskik is vir sedanmotors nie.

Our stay was very pleasant but we do feel they can warn that the entry road of 5 km, is actually not suitable for sedan cars."

"Very nice stay"

"We enjoyed our one-night stay at Lupela Nature Reserve. It was very nice and we definitely recommend a swim in the river pool (we did it at sunset, it was stunning and so warm)."

It is beautiful and peaceful. THe host and hostess are pleasant people and the food, served in a beautiful 1890 farmhouse, was tasty. What a shame that we didn't book for a longer stay. "

"We had a lovely stay at Lapela Nature Reserve. In the evening I had seen rabbits and heard sweet melody of the birds. I had also have a nice talk with the owner about his place and how he started his business. Although we had short time of staying, my wife Zanele enjoyed every moment we were there because she was treated like a Queen by her husband (ME). All I can say is that we had fun at Lapela."

A cosy and well decorated & equipped cottage with two en-suite bathrooms which overlooks the most beautiful setting of a river which unfortunately wasn't flowing due to the drought. A highly recommended stay, bearing in mind that it does not have electricity and runs solely on solar power."

"Lupela Lodge"

"We definitely preferred the lodge to the silo and had such a lovely time. The hosts were really accommodating and the place is so beautiful and very clean too. I'd recommend the silo for more adventurous people and the lodge for people who want more luxury. "

"We need a break out - away from our rat race of the city world. We need to calm down.

Through roomsforafrica.com we came upon this little jewel- everything went smoothly and easy with the reservation and payments.
Far away from our busy life our souls come to rest again. We found ourself in the mountains, we found our reason to live and we came in contact with our God as well.

The tranquility that Lupela Lodge offers will be with us for a very long time.

Thanks again for Alfred and Denise for sharing this little pearl with us. May God keep on using them to bring calmness and peace to other busy souls as well.

God Bless

"The place is charming (we stayed in the Grain Silo) and the surroundings are really beautiful. Swimming in the river was just the thing for a hot day. Lupela was registered in our GPS so we had no problem finding it, though we would recommend arriving in daylight. Not that it is that difficult to find but because you don't want to miss the opportunity of experiencing the scenery and the peace & tranquillity of the place. If you are a bird-watcher, you will find a wide variety of species here, thanks to the varied topography.
Lupela is really good value for money, and a convenient day's drive away if you are heading down from Durban/Pietermaritzburg towards the Cape. You also avoid the N2 log-jam around Mthatha during high season.
We had a car problem and our hosts really went out of the way to help make sure we got back on the road safely. Special thanks to the Rosses for this.
