"Liz gave us a very warm welcome like we were old friends. Our room was spacious, light and fresh and the setting is beautiful, peaceful with a lovely swimming pool that we swam in and relaxed around.

Breakfast was like no other we've had with an introduction to other guests, greeted with homemade bread by Peter and jams by Liz. A perfect strqrt to our day in Addo National Park which is literally around the corner.

The perfect location to relax in with a view of the river after a long day in the park.

Will definitely be back on my next visit. "

"The Happy Jackal is aptly named for the jolly mood its hosts exude. Peter and Liz retired to this beautiful spot on the Sundays River where they built the house that is now the Happy Jackal. The house, thatched and sturdy, has an atmosphere of the African bush fused with the English countryside. Its furniture has many local touches but the scrambled eggs, the homemade marmalade and the tea at breakfast come straight from England along with the accents of the hosts. The lovely riverside situation of the guesthouse is excellent, not only for the glorious sunrise and sunset skies reflected in the water, but also for its peace and proximity to the southern gate of the Addo Elephant Park two kilometres away. The beds, laden with percale linen are a literal dream and the hot baths in the two upper bedrooms a treat after a day of dusty game viewing in the bush. All in all if I was out hunting, I'd be a very happy jackal to land in this establishment. "

"This is a very friendly and helpful B&B located on the banks of the Sundays River not far from the coast. It is well placed for easy access from the main trunk road, but peaceful as not on any through road. Very good value for money.

The owners are willing and able to provide booking services for local game parks and advise on journey times, local area info, and eating places. It is next door to a larger B&B that also provides dinners if you do not wish to go out to eat in the evening.
Being on the river bank there are many birds to be seen and several pairs of binoculars are available, as well as many wildlife reference books.

The breakfasts are, in all senses of the word, 'full', with plenty of choice and fresh homemade bread.

Recommended if you are thinking of visiting Addo, Schotia etc game parks."

"We stayed at the Happy Jackal for two nights, wish we could have stayed longer. We were welcomed and looked after by Liz who owns this remarkable place. It is a very romantic hide-away along the Sundays River close to Addo. The room we stayed in was beautiful and very spacious. Liz gives great recommendations for things to do and where to eat. And what a delicious breakfast we had each morning with home made bread and marmalade. Do not miss this ideal place!"

"We were very happy with our stay at Happy Jackal. The location, close to the N3 and Addo Elephant Park entrance on the bank of Sundays River, was ideal. The rooms were bright and comfortable, the breakfasts excellent, and recommended dinners at nearby restaurants were delicious. A tastefully furnished common area with a roaring fire on cool evenings rounded off perfect days. But best of all was the hostess, Liz, who was welcoming, delightfully witty and entertaining, and who could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. Even our car was washed when we went to leave."

"Great place"

"Great place, very nice host and warm atmosphere. Good place to explore Addo and the Dunefields."

"Great time at the Happy Jackal"

(South Africa) Mr Barnard

"I doubt you'd find better accommodation at 4 times the price. Friendly hosts with an amazingly tranquil guesthouse. The small things always seem to matter most and the Happy Jackal had all the bases covered. I'd recommend the Happy Jackal to anyone keen to explore the area between Port Elizabeth and..."

The small things always seem to matter most and the Happy Jackal had all the bases covered. I'd recommend the Happy Jackal to anyone keen to explore the area between Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred, as well as any prospective visitors to the Addo Elephant Park. Being as close as the Happy Jackal is to both the Sunday's River and the ocean certainly gives it an edge over similar establishments in and around Addo."

We enjoyed the meals she made and preferred them to going to a restaurant. River view from rooms and dining room is lovely. Some outside areas still under construction as this is a new place in a developing neighborhood. Access to South gate of Addo convenient. I would stay there again."
