Our cottages are located within the 9000ha Fort Governor's Estate just outside Grahamstown.

With fantastic views out to the reserve from the privacy of your own deck, you can enjoy a romantic retreat or a relaxed getaway with a group of friends. So sit back, cool off in the pool, dig your toes into the sea sand of our boma, pour a drink and relax around a roaring fire.

Cottages:
Each chalet has a spacious bedroom with a super king bed (that can also be converted to twin beds if you let us know). The bathroom leads off the bedroom with a shower, toilet and basin, complete with our luxury, eco-friendly toiletry range. We are able to accommodate 2 - 3 adults per chalet (with the 3rd adult sleeping on the sofa in the lounge). Alternatively, families with children under 12 would be able to sleep 2 smaller kids on the L-shaped sofa. Please let us know when making your booking.

Unit facilities include: air-conditioners, full kitchens, wood-burning indoor fireplaces, outdoor decks complete with sun loungers and an outdoor dining tables and private braai areas.

There is a central swimming pool for communal use for guests who have booked into the Stoneyvale Cottages. Game drives can be arranged at an additional cost.

Mountain Retreat:
Our Mountain Retreat is ideal for families who want a break away from it all. We offer 2 en-suite bedrooms with king beds, 1 room with bunk beds and a sofa-bed in the lounge. We also offer a large kitchen and open plan room with a wood-burning fireplace all overlooking an expansive deck area with sweeping views out to the horizon.
KINDLY NOTE THERE IS NO SWIMMING POOL NOR WI-FI AT THIS LODGE

Uniondale Lodge:
Uniondale Lodge is the ideal getaway for a group of friends or families looking to relax, unwind and spend time in nature with four en-suite bedrooms sleeping up to 8 guests.
The lodge is fully fenced around the perimeter, however, numerous animal species are often seen grazing around the lodge. The main building has an additional two guest bathrooms, a large living room with a wood-burning fire, fully equipped kitchen and large wrap-around veranda that has stacker doors all the way round allowing you to open up the whole house onto the large decked area, or to keep it cosy without losing the view in the cooler months. The stoep has a big dining table that can comfortably seat 10 people, an undercover braai, large L-shaped sofa and a more secluded reading area with comfy armchairs and a selection of books!
The private swimming pool is surrounded by a large deck area, complete with loungers and a braai area and has stunning views out over the reserve. Uniondale can be booked with the option of fully catered by our in-house chef, or on a self-catering basis.

***All rooms are non-smoking.
***Please note that we are based on a game farm and access to the lodges is via gravel road. Low-rise vehicles and sports cars are not advised.
***Please note that clients booking the Mountain Retreat will need to have a high-rise vehicle or bakkie for access. The lodge is not accessible with a normal sedan-type car.

"Very lovely peaceful stay. Could see nice animals, specially ostriches who would feed around he place. Jo and her husband Sean was super nice and very helpful, even going as far as providing us with oil since we forgot to buy ours. Highly recommended stay for a nice couples get away if you want to have a nice secluded stay in cottage with a nice nature feel.

It is is about 20 minutes away from Grahamstown so would recommend buying grocers beforehand, specially for braai, they have the best wood I've ever worked with."

"What a perfect getaway! We came for the Arts Festival in Grahamstown, which was just about 16km. We were greeted by friendly wild animals upon our arrival, all the way through the dirty gravel road in the wilderness leading to our chalets. It was a beautiful escape from the city life, to a place of wonder, with perfect forest scenery. Our accommodation was clean and well prepared for the guest, we could not fault anything. We had everything we need, even though we should have brought food so we don't leave again. We didn't want to leave. PERFECT!!"

"Had the most awesome stay at Fort Governor's Estate. Stayed away from the main "center" which was perfect and made our way back to the "lounge" for a delicious breakfast every day. Jo arranged a fabulous bush dinner for our family which we would highly recommend."
