Reviews of Draaihoek Lodge

"Little gem in the West Coast"

(South Africa) Stuart

"I highly recommend this little gem. The location is quiet with a private beach. Food is way too much and the quality was outstanding. The Chef was accommodating and attentive to our needs.

Enjoy the West coast in its splendor."

"The sunset on the private beach that we had all to ourselves."

Jane Jones

"Its classy accomodation and food in a relaxed, welcoming setting. "

"We booked 3 rooms for the family; all very large and comfortable with arm chairs as well as king size beds and soft cotton sheets. spacious and well equipped bathrooms; couldn't have been more comfortable. Big refreshing pool and a short board walk over the dunes to miles of pristine beach with seals, and wide variety of bird life.  food was plentiful from an imaginative menu and freshly cooked, so waiting a little for cooking time was no chore (no kids!).

In short everything you would hope for if you are expecting a quiet comfortable rural retreat.

"Gorgeous and romantic "

(South Africa) Lynette Milne

"The setting on the beach is spectacular! The walks on the beach, relaxing pool area and exquisite dining was so relaxing and felt like pure, glorious serendipity! Falling asleep with the sounds of the waves was extraordinary."

"Superb"

(Switzerland) Hermann Spiess

"A unique place in every respect. The huge and clean beach behind the dunes is unforgettable.

Spacious and charming accommodation in a beautiful coastal environment. The meals are prepared by the host on the spot; you may bring your own wine."

"Beautiful beach, beautiful rooms. A little close to the main road, but that doesn't bother too much. Restaurant has great food and friendly service. Highly recommended!"

"Stay for 3 days"

(South Africa) Sonja Kriel

"It was super clean and luxurious. Food was excellent. Service couldn't be better! A jewel outside a town. The wooden path over the dunes was exciting! We are from Gauteng. If we are ever again in that area we will stay there again for sure."

"Draaihoek Lodge Gasvryheid"

(South Africa) Johan Pentz

"Wat n rustige atmosfeer met goeie verblyf, lekker kos, goeie wyn en Weskus-gasvryheid! n Lekker wegbreek om jou batterye te herlaai en te vergeet van die stad se gewoel. Heerlike kaggelvuur in die kamers en n skoon strand wat feitlik jou eie is vir 24 uur van die dag."

"Great hospitality"

"Great hospitality and excellent

food. Our stay was just too short! Will definitely recommend and hopefully return soon.

Thank you."

The oversize bed, quality linen and heated towel rail might be implied when reference is made to ÔluxuriousÕ, our room needed some maintenance though - blinds, door, curtains and table lamp. The food was really good, but it takes a very long time to be served and the staff's service is not what you would expect from a 4 Star establishment. The staff are generally friendly when spoken to, but we did not experience the warm hospitality that the West Coast is known for. The fireplace in the room is cosy and perfect for cold days."

"A gentle jewel by the sea"

(South Africa) Ian Hall

"We broke our journey from the Kalahari to Cape Town with dinner, bed and breakfast at Draaihoek. The place and the staff just make it a totally relaxing place to be. "

The rooms are large, comfortable and very well appointed, with luxurious finishes and detail. My room had a large fireplace for wintery nights, and the restaurant is exceptional. There is also a solar heated swimming pool, and a private beach for afternoon walks.

Very highly recommended."

"The setting is beautiful and the beach the best in South Africa. The room we stayed in was lovely and spacious. It was a pity that there was no one to welcome us and that the chef did not bother to come to work on the second evening. The fresh crayfish was excellent."

Food was of very good quality and nice courses (beef with chilli-chocolate-sauce).

"My oh my! No longer is a 'green card' needed for the habitual bolt up the West Coast to catch perfect 4-6 foot EBay when the swell pops out of the deep blue... My precious wife, Caroline, is now all to keen to come now that luxury is on the menu.

Draaihoek offers West Coast peace, space, and serenity. The thatched lodges seem brand new, are very clean, have a lovely firepace (I just added the pre-cut pieces of blitz provided to the pre-built fire and lit!), and far-away-from-it-all ambience.

I loved going to sleep to the loud sounds of the sea crashing just over the dunes.

Draaihoek is lovely for kids. Totally safe, I know the kids will just run wild - I'm looking forward to returning with them. There's a heated pool too and lots of grassy play areas.

The lodge also serves food and it is damn fine fare, especially the lemon meringue!

Thanks to Genine and her friendly staff for their hospitality."

"We recently spent two amazing nights at Draaihoek and will definitely be back! The finishes and the little touches in the cottages were just perfect. I especially admired the embroidered bedlinens and the king bed was just the most comfortable I have ever slept in, and that includes expensive five star lodges. Our hosts and the staff just couldn't do enough for us. The drive up from Cape Town was well worth the effort. Arriving on New Year's Day to a clear blue sky, a pristine (empty, except for us!) powder white sand beach as far as the eye could see, to be greeted with a welcome drink of excellent SA bubbly (I could kick myself for not asking what it was!) - what a way to start the New Year. The best was yet to come - the fabulous sunset, the stars, and a gemsbok fillet for dinner I which was so tender I could cut it with a feather!

The place seems well off the beaten track and is in the middle of nature but is really a click off the R27. It's part gravel to Lambert Bay where we indulged in crayfish (as one does there), but there are no big potholes or anything to impede the journey (about 3/4 hour) in a 'normal' car.

I could go on and on (and just did!) but this place is REALLY SPECIAL!"

We loved the privacy we had and yet also the interaction with the staff was great. Your chef, Lizette, is extremely well skilled and her food was absolutely awesome - we have not eaten so well in ages - the portins were really generous and the food was beautifully prepared - very imaginative and sooo tasty!

We thouroughly enjoyed Fariedah looking after us so well, she is definitely an asset to your lodge. She was so helpful , nothing was to much effort and such a lovely smile all the time - wonderful sense of humour.

The room was very attractive - loved the big fireplace, extremely comfortable bed and lovely furniture and finishes in the room.

It was a wonderful getaway and we feel totally relaxed and refreshed. We'll be back."

The rooms were really luxurious and cosy, with a fire place an plenty of wood. From their great breakfasts to their delicious suppers presented by a friendly host Marietjie and her staff. All in all a worth while stay and one which will bring us back. A 9.8 rating for sure."

"We made an (for us) unusual repeat visit to Draaihoek as generally a second visit does not live up to the expectations of an excellent first visit. We were not disappointed though and this place is a heaven of tranquillity (bar some minor traffic) and relaxation. We like our long walks on the deserted, pristine, private beach with nothing but sun, sea and rest. Just what we needed. The restaurant put on an amazing Christmas lunch, managing to out-do their excellent reputation. Staff is very friendly, unobtrusive and efficient, the beds are fantastic, the bathrooms spacious and well appointed and the place is kept up to a high standard. We'll be back!"
