"Great house, we arrived just after rain an thunderstorm. First rain in 3,5 months The mimosa smelled great. Our stay was too short. We didn't do the hikes and regret that. Anyway also the breakfast at the pool was fantastic. "

"What awesome accommodation. The location is just magnificent. We only stayed one night but would have loved to stay longer and explore the area. Red Stone cottage is well away from the road and the other cottages so it lends to a sense of (secure) isolation and peace. The amenities are superb, beautifully chosen, with a spa bath in both of the en-suite bathrooms. There is a fully kitted kitchen and place for both an indoor and outdoor fire. Breakfast at the main house is available as well as dinners at an extra cost per person. Certainly it was worth the cost."

"A beautiful setting and each farm cottage is secluded enough to give privacy if required. The cottages are extremely comfortable, and the hosts couldn't do enough to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We accepted the offer of a continental breakfast, made all that much better by the fact that all the ingredients were farm grown. Visitors must give themselves a chance to enjoy the tranquility and not trust first impressions. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay and could have stayed longer."

"Excellent"

(South Africa) Martin Britz

"We loved the semi-packaging meals we could buy. We loved the friendliness of the host and accommodation among the hills. The bird life is amazing."

"The farm is located in a beautiful area of Red Hill in the middle of Swartsberg Mount. It is in close proximity to Swartsberg Pass, Cango Caves and the attractions in the area. We stayed at the Bushman's Cottage for two nights. The cottage is spacious, clean and well equipped. We stayed in three rooms. We enjoyed the owner's warm welcome and hospitality and the delicious dinner served in our cottage. We enjoyed the hike recommended to us. The kids enjoyed the pool even on cool days. We enjoyed the great sightings of animals, from the neighbouring game reserve, when we drove to and from the farm."

I did not mind this at all but after spending the one night that I had booked for I fully understood why they had extended their stay. The place is lovely, Petro is a very special person who goes out of her way to make sure everything is just right. Do yourself and order the braai pack, it is delicious!! A great place for nature lovers who like to take a walk and do a spot of birding. I will be returning."

The setting is unbelievably beautiful and the accommodation is extremely tasteful and comfortable. The breakfast was very tasty and the host was very charming and a lovely woman. I'd recommend this to anyone thinking of travelling and rate it as one of the top venues I've been to in the country in terms of all round beauty, character, comfort and charm. I'll be back!! And if you are recommended to go for dinner at the 'Rose of the Karoo' in Calitzdorp, I'd recommend it highly!!"

"The Red Stone Hills, what a beautiful, tranquil (apart from the dawn chorus) spot with a stunning back drop. Rustic, very rustic accommodation, with plenty of hot water and a comfy bed, stunning views and if you're very lucky an amazing starry sky to sip your wine and enjoy your braai.....but watch out, the bugs do bite and there can be plenty of them. If you are self catering and there is an offer of breakfast from Petro your hostess be sure to take it as you will be spoilt rotten and stuffed to bursting point with some fine country cooking, and you won't need to eat again for the rest of the day. A dip in the pool at sunset to cool off after a hot day and the sounds of nature (honking Ostrich a great sound) all make for a fabulous stay."

What a jewel tucked away against the amazing, rugged red mountains of the ancient Karroo, sticking out like a fresh breath of red air, visible from 10 kilometers away, sculpted by the Maker with His giant pallet knife.

The quaint, historic cottages individually restored and styled to maintain all the original architectural features, surprise and please even the most demanding tourist! A true class act!
