"We love being far off the grid, which is why the Wa-Huis was heaven to us. Views towards the back of Gamkaskloof in the Swartberg are stupendous. The restored wagon house is beautifully furnished and laid out, with all the amenities you need to self-cater, and there are plenty of oil lamps, candles and battery-lights. There is a lovely west-facing braai and stoep. We did not use the donkey to heat shower water as the water was warm enough for us, nor the indoor fire place, but they would be essential in winter. The friendly pre-stay emails, and the welcome and daily visits by hostess Selma Nel, made us feel vey welcome. I always judge a place on that interaction. The only thing I could recmmend is that a photocopied map of the 4x4 route which doubles as a nicely challenging hiking trail, is put in the cottage (with all those interesting magazines), and that possibly another trail is laid out on the hills behind the cottage. We want to return to also experience the wonderfully shaded and isolated campsite down near the river."

Practical furnishings and great for the dogs too, so you don't have to stress. Plenty of lanterns & matches supplied. the interior is so well done with period pieces and the old wooden doors that divide the bedroom & living area is just too beautiful. Selma & Bennie are very accommodating hosts. Highly recommended."

"We were accommodated at Ou Pad se Kloof instead of Die Wa-huis. It was spacious and comfortable, with a good outside braai area, sheltered from the cold winds - we were there on 1st September! We were given a warm welcome."
