"Great place to stay in the Southern Berg, especially if you want to tick Sani Pass off the bucket list. We stayed in the cottage which was clean, spacious and comfortable with a nice log fire. Cooking facilities were good but a degree of organization was required regarding kitchen working surface.
Staff were pleasant and efficient from the welcome to the departure.
There was cell phone reception at Reception (where else) but it did not make or to our cottage. No TV either; heaven.

Walks in the estate were disappointing. The walk around the dam was too short. The mountain walk went through a lot of old gum plantation and I never made it to the top because of the thunderstorm. But then I guess there are a lot of walks in the Berg any way so it no great loss.
Would stay again."

On top of it you stay in THE most beautiful natural surroundings with an occasional and very modest sound bit produced by a passing car going up or coming down Sani Pass, just as a reminder you're still part of the 'civilised' world.

The bird and insect life is amazing to observe and watching dragon flies preform their lovers dance is just an amazing experience. You have to be into this kind of thing of course because if you are looking for action of another kind I would suggest you stay in the city.

if, on the other hand, you'd like to forget the concrete, fumes and hooting... Mkomazama is the place to stay for more than a day. "

We were welcomed at 19h00 with a bottle of rose and some fire wood. The next morning the sun was out and we went for a stroll to discover the setting. It is an absolute beautiful place, loved the dam with its natural pool (which we used on occasion) and the walk to salt and pepper a nice challenge.

We loved the warm scones in the morning and a nice surprise that the ladies come and clean your cottage everyday. This was definately a trip worth making, it made us relax instantly. "

"Our short one-night stay was thoroughly enjoyed before our great trek up Sani Pass the next morning. We were brought a basket of heavenly home-made scones at 8:00am to have with our morning coffee. Delicious and the perfect accompaniment to that first cup of hot coffee!!!!! The surroundings are beautiful, peaceful and tranquil and of course you have the perfect view of the Sani Pass as well. Our walk around the trout dam was rewarded with an abundance of bird-life and we even got a glimpse of a few trout.
Our room was perfectly heated with the fire-place and our king-size bed very comfy with the electric blankets keeping away the mountain chill. The kitchen had everything we needed and we felt that we should have booked for an extra day to unwind a little longer. A really charming place with so much history! I would gladly recommend Mkomazana Mountain Cottages to family and friends.

"We arrived at Mokonyana Mountain Cottages on a freezing late Monday afternoon where we were welcomed by Peter and Gill with smiling faces and a warm fire going in the reception area. We had a hearty warm chat in front of the fire and then we were presented a bottle of wine so we could relax after the long drive from Centurion in Gauteng. We then proceeded to our cute little "Stone Cottage" where I lit the fire for my little had a traditional South African braai with all the accessories and utensils provided. What a pleasure for my girlfriend, Susan and me to relax in the middle of this beautiful mountain setting. We continued the next day with a short half day hike up to the salt and pepper pots on the mountain behind that look further than what they actually are. What a great discovery to me to find that Susan loved the mountains and especially hiking. With that new knowledge I soon got hold of information brochures and booked a trip in a 4x4 up the Sani pass into Lesotho. What an experience it was to see a Lesotho village where we tasted Basotho beer and bread. Much to our amusement there was a light hearted American tourist trying to translate the Basotho response to the greeting and came up with the typical "right back at you" after the greeting was made. We all had a good laugh and then proceeded to the highest pub in Africa. We then continued home after our tasty curry and a few beers on at the top and had a well deserved afternoon nap on the cough in front of the wood fire. The next few days we spent playing golf, horse riding and shopping in the surrounding area. This was such a special holiday as it was Susan and my first holiday together. It was made extra special by the romantic setting the friendly people and the interesting activities that were available a short distance from the cottages. Thanks to all for such a great holiday."

Mkomazana Mountain Cottages

There was a beautiful view from the dam
in which we never swam

The rain had us run back
but then we had a afternoon nap

The fireplace kept us warm
while outside there was a storm

Later in the quiet of the night
I held her tight

In the bright new morning sun
I was looking forward to a day of fun

It was well worth the stay
and I will do so when I come this way

So hand me my three grand
and I will be back with a tune in my hand :)"

All the extra little touches, like the freshly baked scones every morning. On new years day a greeting card accompanied the scones. Mkomazana Mountain Cottages is neat and well maintained with Rose Cottage being the cherry on the top. We will most definitely be going back again as this was the most relaxing time we have spent away from home. The peaceful tranquillity and stunning mountain views of the area are most definitely the best cure for any stress ailments. We arrived back in Midrand yesterday feeling ready for the stresses of everyday life until we pack up and go back to Mkomazna again to de-stress."

The place where we stayed was lovely and just to hear all the silence that was around us with the birds whistling softly was great. I have been to self catering lodges before where you had to take all of your own things, but this lodge had everything that you needed there, there was not one thing left out like cutlery. towels etc. The lodge is really prepared for cold weather as there was a fire place, heater, thick duvet and heated blankets. It was really nice to stay there and I will return there in the future. Thank you very much Mkomazana lodge for the lovely relaxing stay."
