"My wife and I thorougfhly enjoyed our very short stay at House at Pooh Corner where the welcome received was very warm, the room allocated very comfortable even to the provision of an electric underblanket to take the edge off the cold sheets when arriving home late in the evening.
A very simple and inexpensive suggestion would be to provide an elementary bar of soap in the bathroom especially for the men many of whom are not comfortable using their wive's "smelly" liquid soaps!
I'll certainly consider revisiting should the occasion arise."

100% recommend this little jewel, even if you need a break and you live within Cape Town.

Thank you so much Kathy and Team! "

"Owl's cottage was just as advertised, and had many extra little accessories to make our brief stay more comfortable. Beautifully quiet area for a nice peaceful stay. The gardens are incredible and so well looked after. The cottage had plenty of double adapters, some spices in the kitchen, soap in the shower, DSTV channels on the TV and a decent Weber braai on the little balcony. Bed was very comfortable and we LOVED that there were three pillows, and not just two. The host, Katy, was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Definitely the 'hostess with the mostest'. Thank you for having us, Katy. We will be back! "

"A delightful hostess with more than just the mostesst"

"A charming, hidden away cottage with an enchanting back garden to explore. Amazing morning breakfast made personally by the host, leaving you full every morning. An amazing room just the right size for A couple getaway. Will definitely go back there for more honey pots!!"

"The location is lovely, being literally across the road from the Noordhoek Farm Village and close to the beach and other charming attractions.

The property is lovely, it has a large garden and the rooms are thoughtfully decorated and homely. The owners are also very friendly and welcoming.

We had a few issues however, that ultimately left us with a bitter taste. The owners had a large family gathering, of which we were not forewarned. Upon arrival we were INFORMED, not asked, that we had been moved to a different room because the elderly lady whose birthday was being celebrated could not make it up the stairs. We were also INFORMED, not asked, that our breakfast the next morning would be served in our rooms, as family were occupying the dining room. No offer was made for an alternative arrangement - we were not asked whether we would like a table set for us in the garden, for example. We expect, as paying guests, to be accommodated, not to be made to accommodate others.

The bed was also incredibly uncomfortable, and rather than getting a good night's sleep we could barely sleep at all. Furthermore, the duvets over the beds are too small for two people, which also caused further frustration while trying to sleep.

Ultimately, the service and comfort we received was not worth the money we paid. The place is quaint and holds so much potential, but ultimately we were left unsatisfied.

Establishments response:

Dear Wade

Thank you for talking the time to send the review and for your kind words about the beauty of Pooh Corner.

I am so sorry that you felt neglected and ÔinformedÕ during your stay, it was with the totally opposite intention, that I upgraded your suite, at no extra cost to the best and biggest suite at Pooh Corner. OwlÕs House, unlike our 2 other B&B suites has a separate lounge and fireplace, and costs R450 pn more. I never dreamed that you wouldnÕt be happy with the change. I could in fact have left you in RooÕs Room and put my elderly parents in PigletÕs Place, but I genuinely thought of spoiling you with the extra space and comfort. As for the breakfast served in your suite, yes perhaps a table in the garden would have been a lovely idea, I wish you had suggested it, sorry I didnÕt.

You mentioned that the king-size bed with king-size duvet was not comfortable. I am sorry that you didnÕt sleep well, it is so often the same for me when I sleep in a strange bed. For the sake of the review however, I must say that we have Cloud Nine matrasses on all our beds and are often complimented on how comfortable they are. Similarly I must mention that our ÔlargeÕ family function was a braai with 14 family members to celebrate my mother in-laws 80th birthday. As this is both a family home and guesthouse and not a hotel, I donÕt think this was an unreasonable event.

I trust you will accept my humblest apologies for any disappointment caused.

With kind regards

Kathy Fish"

"I have stayed at Pooh Corner before and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Kathy is so welcoming and it really feels like a home, whilst having your own space and privacy. The accommodation is homely and the breakfast is wonderful. Charlie the dog is a big highlight! The location is perfect, just a short drive or walk down to the beach or into areas such as Kalk Bay or Silvermine. Opposite the house is a Farm Village which has places for coffee and a evening meal just over the road, which is lovely. Would recommend staying here to see a different, more relaxing experience of Cape Town! "

"I loved Cathy's warmth and friendliness (her husband's too).
I loved Cathy's breakfast offerings that were delicious and something different from the normal fare one gets churned out at hotels.
One can get lost in the fabulous grounds, so many nooks and crannies to explore.

"Awesome! Different. Lovely for young children or if you're an EE Milne fan. Kathy pours her creative heart into making her guests comfortable and if you don't appreciate her efforts, you have to be a lump of rock! Breakfast is 'to die for' and you need a whole day just to explore the garden.

The breakfast she provided was wholesome, filling and healthy and very well presented. Generally the premises overall and the rooms were clean, neat and tidy and felt like our home away from home. The garden is lush, green and beautiful more like you have a private forest all to yourself. We struggled a bit with the TV but we didn't get away to watch TV"

'Piglet's place' facilities are charming and tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The surrounding garden and natural forest area are delightful, creating such a peaceful and relaxing setting. We saw a number of birds including a beautiful Paradise Fly Catcher. They have a delightful array of pets. We grew very attached to their 'Bingo', who is a typically playful and mischievous puppy who is full of energy. We highly recommend this B&B. "

"Our stay at Pooh Corner exceeded all expectation. This was my best weekend away experience. It was just 2 days in my own town, but it felt as if I'd been transported hundreds of miles away and the memory will last a long time. Our hostess was wonderfully welcoming and very generous. Everything was thoughtfully laid out from the kitchen ingredients to a welcome night cap at the end of the day. Breakfast was wonderful and made with care and love. So different from what you'd have at home. There was really no special need to go elsewhere as there was so much to keep our little 2 year old occupied. She was thrilled just to greet the chickens and rabbits & go walking down to the river running close by all weekend. What a great stay."

"What a lovely experience! Kathy and Gavin are the most thoughtful and genuine hosts and all needs are catered for. Their home is an extension of their business and it felt like we were visiting old friends. We especially enjoyed having our breakfast in their dining room and the great laughs we had with them. It was so funny to realise my husband and Gavin were at school and the army together and Kathy also had worked with my hubby at our old company so it was a great reunion as well.

Our only regret is that we only got to stay for one night but console ourselves that we can go back for a longer stay next time. They also cater for families so next time we will be happy to take our young twins with us as there are so many fun things for them to enjoy as well. This was our first break in a year and we are so glad it was at the House at Pooh Corner!
