"This was good simple accommodation. Nothing fancy, clean and practical. Very centrally located, with many good restaurants, shops and bars right on the door step. My room was at the back of building with a large terrace, and was very quiet ; however my friend had a room on the street, which was quite noisy with traffic and deliveries to the shops opposite. The manager was friendly and helpful. Internet access was also available, which I had not come across at other guest houses I had stayed at. The breakfast was functional, and you had to eat in your own room, rather than in a dining room or kitchen."

"Centrally situated"

"Arno is a very good host and was most helpful. Our room was very comfortable and clean, we enjoyed our stay. It is also very convenient to be in the centre of Stellenbosch."

"de oude meul guest house"

"My room was clean, the breakfast was delicious and the guesthouse is well situated in central Stellenbosch making the town accessible on foot. Only negative was the traffic noise at night but I guess that this is to be expected taking the location into account "

The rooms are very clean, the coffee shop was great, the breakfasts were very tasty and filling.
They were extremely helpful, they introduced us to a good transport company, who took us on wonderful sight seeing tours all over the Peninsula, I would certainly go back to de Oude Meul, when I go back to Stellenbosch.

"Central comfortable and cleans"

(Australia) Mrs Knipe

"It is in a very old building . It is right in the centre of Stellenbosch. The beds are really good and linen excellent. Wifi works well. Breakfast at the cafe next door. Staff friendly and helpful. Air conditioning very noisy during night. Choose a back room with own veranda."

It hasn't changed and although very noisy on the Saturday night (SA had just thrashed the Aussies in the rugby). I enjoyed the hustle and bustle. Staff are very welcoming and friendly and the little cafe attached is lovely. It has rough edges - don't go expecting perfection - but for a down to earth, clean, fantastically located hotel it ticks all the boxes. I would be happy to stay there on my next visit to Stellenbosch!"

"We stayed for one night in Oude Meul Guest House and was surprised and can really recommended it to anybody. Situated right in the centre of Stellenbosch business centre, we thought it was going to be noisy and not comfortable. This was not at all the case. Nice and warm, really private and cater to all our needs. En-suite bathroom, balcony and extra blankets helped us to spend a quite night in the middle of a real Cape Winter Storm. A Lovely breakfast, in the owners coffee shops downstairs, with 2 cups of the best Italian coffee rounded off our stay in Stellenbosch. We will definitely visit again if we need to be in Stellenbosch for a function."

"Stellenbosch"

(Belgium) Mrs Van Ranst

"Nice welcome. There was a problem with the room we stayed in, but it was solved the next day. The owner was very friendly and gave us a bottle of his finest wines to make up for the trouble. The breakfast was the best we had in SA!"

"Charming, welcoming and helpful"

"A clean, comfortable and cosy little B&B with a scrummy breakfast in the morning - the best bacon we've had in years! But the real winner was the service. "Serendipity - the faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident. This is what happened when I googled guest houses in Stellenbosch and saw the visual advertisement of de Oude Meul Guest House. The bicycles on the front stoep area attracted my attention at first, because I adore cycling. We arrived very late on our first evening, but the owner still received us and was extremely courteous, though he should have been quite upset with us (5 stars for his nice act). A quaint room we had with a nice small patio to sit and listen to the sounds of cars and the voices of students mingling with tourist down below! "What a beautiful noise coming down from the streets" - if I can quote the lyrics in one of Neil Diamond's songs. A wonderful surprise as white, clean linen is a must for me - I loved the fresh smell of the white bath towels as well. Breakfast in the Mill Coffee shop was different and being on a corner with lots of windows, you formed part of the cyclists, the tourists sharing breakfast and just the ordinary folks living in Stellenbosch! We had the weekend of our lives and coming from Gauteng to escape the rat race, this was the most perfect place to do just that! Thank you"

"I have just enjoyed three nights at de Oude Meul Guest House. The room was comfortable and clean. The air-conditioning was a blessing especially as Stellenbosch was experiencing a heat wave. Breakfast in the downstairs coffee shop was delicious and the atmosphere vibrant. The guest house is situated in the heart of the little town within walking distance of many restaurant, shops and amenities. The wireless network was an absolute boon.

I will be staying at this guest house on future trips to Stellenbosch."

"You can "feel" Stellenbosch"

(South Africa) Eric Smith

"A value for money stay in a clean & well-maintained environment where you can literally "feel & smell" Stellenbosch. GREAT COFFEE !!!!!"

"Oude Meul!"

"Very warm welcome by lovely receptionist who was very helpful at explaining good restaurants, wine farms and bars in Stellenbosch. Great stay, simple rooms, and really good value for money."

"My wife and I both found the central location to be extremely helpful. There was easy access to pubs and restaurants to which we were helpfully guided by the owner. The room was comfortable and we were well looked after, although the lack of a cooked breakfast on Sundays because his adjacent coffee shop was closed, caught us a little unawares. All in all, though, we would recommend this accommodation to anybody visiting Stellenbosch, and we would certainly stay there again. "

"One of rooms without airco."

"Pleasant stay with good breakfast."

"Don't judge a book by its cover (in this case, its immediate environment), came to mind as our friend manoeuvred his vehicle into an obliging parking space. The yellow and white exterior did very well as wrapping, but somehow the faded, if not derelict corner building, swallowed the prettiness of the guest house's architecture. The Victorian door made a promise which did not disappoint. I must admit, the staircase was daunting (to my 74 year old mom and my suitcase also gave a loud groan) but reaching the top of the stairs, left me with a feeling of euphoria, as if I have just reached the top of Mt Everest. The elegance and tasteful furnishing of the reception area dispelled any apprehension I might have experienced in the street. 'Come into my parlour', I could hear our bedroom whisper, as blue and white and yellow enfolded us into its arms, the sun adding its friendly greeting. Breakfast on the veranda, allowing a bird's eye view of streets, people and especially gorgeous Cape Dutch architecture was a delight. Arno is the perfect host, his charm and friendliness and warmth reflected in his fine guest house. And we are delighted to learn that the corner shop under construction is going to blossom into another Arno creation, a coffee shop. We will definitely visit again when next in gorgeous Stellenbosch. Thank you Arno!"
