Sadly I had other plans that evening, but my daughter did order from the restaurant and her meal was delivered to the room - she was delighted that the vegetarian fare she had requested was delicious (for a specialist seafood restaurant we felt that was pretty impressive that they cater to all tastes!)

In the morning at breakfast, our needs were met and we were completely satisfied. Our waiter was wonderful, and the presentation of the meal was impressive.

We were treated like special visitors by all the staff at all times, and I feel that extra care was taken in all regards. We plan to return again very soon.

A few details like the wall lights blinking at the bathroom and one of the night stand lamp not working properly, it was quickly replaced. The Blackbeard Restaurant was very well located, just beside de lobby area and with a terrace which has an overwhelming view of the bay. The sea food was excellent, the breakfast very well provided and very economical. In summary you get a good service, nice stay and your money worth, I definitely recommend it."

This would have been nice here as when you stay for a short stay one or two nights you do not want to go out and buy coffee, tea etc. Also no cork screw and essential in South Africa where wine is so reasonable and available. They did open bottle but only place we stayed that a bottle opener/corkscrew could not be supplied. Our last hotel so appeared basic due to these oversights after the other guest houses/apartments added these little touches. Also the reception could be better. No details about pre-booking hotel restaurant or even the code to get out of the gated area by the pedestrian area - fortunately another guest helped us. Overall good accommodation, with nice view, but they did not go the extra mile we had come to expect from all of the other places we had stayed. Customer Service in general is alive and well in South Africa, but Chapmans prepared us for our return to the UK where it is a rare thing these days. Also only hotel that asked for full payment up front too."

We particularly loved the fact that it is within walking distance from all the beachfront's hot-spots, like the Oceanarium, Pavilion, Beach, etc.

I have stayed at many establishments during the course of my employ, including the Sheraton in Pretoria to the Rendezvous Hotel in Brackenfell, Cape Town.

The Chapman is located in a prime position overlooking the Brookes Hill Pavillion next to the oceanarium and Port Elizabeth's King's Beach. There is a myriad of different entertainment venues within two minutes the service at the Chapman was excellent from the check-in to check out date. The view was incredible and the breakfasts scrumptious. My wife was very happy with her stay and we both felt that the Chapman represents great value for money. I will definitely make reservations at the Chapman in the future.

On a critical note an area for improvement is the fact that the paintwork is no longer at the same standard that is exuded by the furnishings and high service levels experienced of the hotel staff.

That being said, thanks for a great stay.

My only ‘complaint’ was that we asked for toilet paper and towels as there were none when we arrived in the room and never did see these for the duration of our stay. Maybe cleaning staff could be a little bit more meticulous when preparing and cleaning the rooms. But all in all, a very enjoyable and pleasant stay.

Going to the hotel I did not have any proof that I've made a booking and it was paid for. When I arrived at the hotel I did explain that my luggage was missing, however I was warmly welcomed and since all arrangement were done prior to my arrival everything went smooth.

Arrangements were made with the hotel that if my laugage was delivered I will be informed immedialtely and front desk staff were informed about my predicament. The room was arranged as expected because I had requested a ground floor room with a double bed and with a perfect view. When my luggage was delivered after two days the hotel staff assisted me to unlock my suitcases as the keys were lost.

Mr. Arthur, the waiter, was polite and freindly to us. He advised us with places to go to and even recommed meals. We did enjoy our stay and it was not the first time. We will be visiting the hotel soon.
