"Die rustige atmosfeer"

Lina le Roux

"Die feit dat ons honde welkom was, dat ons die etes by die kamers kon kry en die heerlike etes. Ook die vriendelik jongmense by ontvangs. Die toilet by nr 8 hou vir lank aan met drup en die badkamerdeur is stram. Dit sal gaaf wees as julle daaraan aandag kan gee."

We could hear every little sound they made, like they were standing in our bedroom. We then didn't sleep at all the rest of the night, wondering if everyone else could hear our 1 month old baby the whole night. "

On their arrival they received a friendly welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the plate of Òreal boere kosÓ.

As they had to meet us in Cape Town, they were unable to stay for breakfast.

I was pleasantly surprised while watching ÒPasellaÓ to see one of the presenters on a 4x4 drive, which took place on the farm.

Many thanks for making the stay very comfortable and if ever we have the opportunity of motoring to the Cape, we will certainly make ÒVale KarooÓ our pit stop."

Ekstra moeite is deur die gasvrou gedoen deur vooraf smse om te bepaal of ons etes wou he. Hulle het ook spesiaal vir ons hout en blits neergesit om self te kon braai. Ons het alles gehad wat ons nodig sou he. 'n Heerlike oornag plek.

We only stayed one night and was received with a warm welcome. The place was beautifully clean and well cared for with some interesting accessories in the bathroom. The bedding clean and nice to sleep in. Extra effort was made by the hostess via SMS to confirm if we would like meals. They also provided us with fire wood and firelighters in order for us to braai by ourselves. A delightful stop over."

Enjoyed being able to braai, although it was quite hot sitting in the late afternoon sun. Perhaps long term planning could include an "afdak" of sorts next to the braai area made of latte like the ceiling inside (or shade cloth)...need a bit more shade than that provided by the umbrella - until the karee trees canopy.
Being able to buy meat, salads and sandwiches (in addition to the usual ice and firewood) was a very nice touch (had we known I wouldn't have bought en route) and the alternative of a cooked meal was also a good option.

Overall a very convenient, well maintained stop over that I would recommend to friends."

"Travelling the big sky country of the Karoo, you tend to expect an adequate B&B. The Vale is far from adequate, it is a special place that will delight you as soon as you get out of the car. Artistic, contemporary, and starkly set to suit the semi-arid Karoo, the Vale is everything you want in a B&B - great service, great food or self catering, clean and special touches wherever you look and well priced. We stayed in the Hunters Lodge a converted stone shed with so much attention to detail from the rustic copper piping and 'horn-shaped' handles in the bathroom, to the crisp, fresh linen on the beds. It is communal to a couple of families (with separate sleeping quarters). It was perfect for our family of four for an overnight stay. Other sections of The Vale provide a more romantic retreat with antique touches or lodgings that are exclusive. We loved the Fynbos walk, the use of natural stone in the buildings, the lone aloes dotted around like artworks, and the sizzling lamb shops on the braai - an exquisite taste of Karoo living at its best. A special place which we will return to again."
