Enjoyed being able to braai, although it was quite hot sitting in the late afternoon sun. Perhaps long term planning could include an "afdak" of sorts next to the braai area made of latte like the ceiling inside (or shade cloth)...need a bit more shade than that provided by the umbrella - until the karee trees canopy.
Being able to buy meat, salads and sandwiches (in addition to the usual ice and firewood) was a very nice touch (had we known I wouldn't have bought en route) and the alternative of a cooked meal was also a good option.

Overall a very convenient, well maintained stop over that I would recommend to friends."

It is communal to a couple of families (with separate sleeping quarters). It was perfect for our family of four for an overnight stay. Other sections of The Vale provide a more romantic retreat with antique touches or lodgings that are exclusive. We loved the Fynbos walk, the use of natural stone in the buildings, the lone aloes dotted around like artworks, and the sizzling lamb shops on the braai - an exquisite taste of Karoo living at its best. A special place which we will return to again."
