"The best food ever! Proper full English Breakfast in the mornings, served in a beautiful garden. The Dinner is a traditional Karoo cooked meal like my grandmother used to cook. Pumpkin, lamb, rice, cauliflour. Beautiful garden and there were even a family that brought their two large breed dogs along. Had a good little walk through the small town and saw a small holding with various animals as well as a Standard Bank ATM. Will certainly be back. Lot's of mosquito's but I had peacefull sleep and kept the windows closed and luckily there was an aircon. Little fridge with coffee in the room. Separate bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. Save parking. Tossie and her husband and staff are very friendly and accommodating and really goes out of their way to cook for a king! Pet friendly. Good old Afrikaans people who goes out of their way to set the tables in the garden and even bring ice cream and chocolate sauce after the main course. "

The lodge may be of old style, but it has a lot of character, the buffet dinner was absolutely divine, it was nice sitting in the little garden for dinner and breakfast, and the service is good. "After driving for hours on an extremely hot day in December Sadie (my dog) and I, arrived at Bun Clody Guest House in Hanover. The welcome by the owners Danie and Tossie was genuine and friendly. The house was attractively and comfortably furnished, and stepping into my bedroom and bathroom I felt transported into an earlier age when rooms were large and the furniture proportionately so. After soaking away the stress of the day's journey in a hot bath, I joined other visitors in the garden. This lovingly tended, beautiful oasis made me feel as though I was in an English country garden after the starkness of the surrounding Karoo countryside. Peaceful and cool we all sipped on drinks before going in to help ourselves from the buffet to a very tasty dinner, not included in the price but well worth the additional cost. After a good night's sleep, some quiet time in the cool of the early morning in the garden while Sadie played, a hearty farm style breakfast and delicious homemade preserves (which are also on sale), we reluctantly left to face another hot day journeying north. On my return journey I stopped at Bun Clody again. It was exactly as it had been before and made one comfortable in the knowledge that, as long as Danie and Tossie are in charge, it will always be a place where one can be sure of wonderful caring hospitality. "

"Bun Clody is a very peaceful and "downtime" resting spot halfway between JHB and the Western Cape, in Hanover. If you're looking for somewhere to kick back after a long day's drive, refresh with decent home cooking, and chill out completely in the very restful and tiny town, then Bun Clody will work perfectly. We had a lovely tour of the local church by the co-owner of the guest house, and both the dinner and the breakfast were delicious home cooked meals.

There is not a great deal to do in Hanover other than wander around and/or rest, so if your tastes are for more exciting activities, this is not the place for you. It really is a halfway house, and not a lot more.
