"We were a group of 5 retired couples who frequently go away into the country for a fun few days. We were all so impressed with this fabulous Barry House venue on Riverton Stud Farm. The old family farmhouse with 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms was the ideal place for us. The house is well supplied with whatever you need for a very comfortable stay. The hosts are extremely friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. There are more than adequate cooking and barbeque facilities, many special touches and a huge amount of interesting memorabilia of the Barry family who had lived in this house for over 100 years.

To crown it all there are the exquisite race horses of various ages including at least 9 suckling foals and their mothers. To add to the friendly atmosphere there are 4 docile Alsatians and very courteous farm labour. Families with young children would also love it.

There are many attractions in the surrounding neighbourhood, including wine tasting, walks, river cruises and enticing restaurants."

It's smack in the middle of the wine farms, so perfect for a wine routing weekend... which is of course one of the reasons we were there.

Sadly we left town a little late, and missed the last foal of the season being born (another family in the group managed to get there in time to witness it), but we saw the foal standing on gangly legs not long after. It's a stud farm, so there are plenty of horses for the kids to see, and lots of space to ride bikes and have fun. All around a great weekend away.
