We found Odessa through our GPS system and it was perfect for just climbing on the N1 north again the next morning. We were received by Pieter and his wife and made comfortable instantly. We had safe enclosed parking for our car and trailer, the rooms were super clean, electrical blankets on the beds was such a luxury in the cold of that night and the kids enjoyed their stay watching their favourite TV program after the long day on the road. Odessa is professionally managed and the owners, who are very helpful in all situations. Since our first stay in Odessa we went back 3 times already and are still pleasantly surprised by their quality of accommodation that is of high standard and will always be like that. We met them as strangers and always felt like much appreciated friends when we left. This establishment is certainly highly recommended by us."

Odessa Guest House is situated in a quiet area not far away from the N1 and is close to the Mimosa Shopping Centre if you decide to do some shopping. We were warmly welcomed upon arrival at the guesthouse and were immediately taken to our rooms and what a surprise! The rooms were clean and neat from floor to ceiling and were equipped with a fridge, microwave and over enough cupboards for us to pack all our baggage.
The bathroom was also decorated nicely. We were served a 5-star breakfast by the host.
We were there over the weekend for a wedding and I was the driver of the bride’s car. I had to decorate the car on the morning of the wedding and the hostess had offered to help me.

"My family and I travelled to Bloemfontein from Johannesburg to attend a church convention. We arrived at Bloemfontein just after 19h30 on 24 May 2008 and found Odessa Guest House not so far away from the highway. The weather was miserable but we were welcomed by a cheerful host, Pieter like long lost family. He called my mother "Mama" in a respectful manner and I thought South Africa is really changing, where truly there is no color barrier and black and white people see each other as fellow brother and sister. This gave me hope for our country despite the many challenges we are faced with ever day.

His wife Raisa is equally friendly and their lovely Labrador who enjoyed being stroked, my little 7 year old niece took pleasure in giving him the most appreciated massage on his body. The room we occupied had the basic necessities; it was clean with enough beds, clean towels and a well equipped small kitchenette, small fridge with important emergency contact numbers on the outside door! There is a microwave oven which is quite handy for self-catering purposes. The wardrobe has sufficient space, hangers and a full-length mirror. There was a shower only with no bath but it was still fine. The only suggestion I would make is that they should provide disposable shower caps.

Unfortunately there was no time for breakfast but the stay was pleasant and it felt like my second home. We were able to appreciate the architecture of the house and garden in the daytime which is beautiful. The guest houses are well secured which also gives one a sense of peace. I will certainly recommend Odessa Guest House to my colleagues, friends and my church members.

A large Golden Labrador rules the roost here and what they say about owners and their dogs being similar in many respects is certainly true at Odessa. The owners are a curious combination of Pieter, a local and Raisa who is beautifully Russian. Both Pieter and Raisa welcome their guests as though they are long lost friends and their PR in this respect is first class. Their house is set in suburban Bloemfontein, is modern, face brick with a garden and swimming pool which must be essential in summer. The accommodation comprises a labyrinth of rooms of varying sizes. I stayed in a small room with a double bed, shower and loo with a bit of a "Heath Robinson" arrangement for a kitchen which was fitted into an area smaller than any London flat you could imagine. But everything was spotlessly clean and worked albeit that the design was cheap and cheerful.
So, Odessa is small, practical and clean but the accommodation lacks charm which is more than made up by the friendliness of the hosts. On the money front, the pricing is fair but I would suggest that they should charge slightly less. That would be spot on and have the likes of me clamouring back for more."
