Antbear Lodge has the perfect option for you, located near to Giants Castle with its spectacular view over the rolling hills of the Natal Midlands and Giants Castle. This lodge is perfectly positioned for your Drakensberg adventure.

The guest house is situated approximately 4 hours from Johannesburg and 2 hours from Durban which makes the Antbear Lodge a great option to stop over on your way to the coast. It’s well positioned to explore the best of what the Drakensberg and Natal Midlands has to offer. We offer fully catered accommodation with all the trimmings to make you feel welcome, and spoilt.

This Drakensberg accommodation has its own organic vegetable garden and we try to get as much as we can from there. If you choose to stay in the luxury cave, we also offer a private dining option (weather permitting) where we setup a table on the deck of the cave and you dine by candlelight under the stars. Breakfast is served with freshly baked bread and scones and often it becomes a 2 hour affair.

Log fireplaces can be found in each cottage and wood is provided at no cost.

There is plenty to do while you are here apart from just kicking back and soaking in the fresh air. We offer hiking trails right here on the farm as well as guided horse trails in the surrounding foothills of the Drakensberg, and then you can go out and explore the area. Kamberg Nature Reserve has by far the best examples of bushman rock art you will see anywhere in the Drakensberg. There is a whole range of hiking trails at Giants Castle which offers some of the best Drakensberg hiking and views anywhere.

We are located on the Midlands Meander which offers a huge selection of arts and crafts, markets and farm stalls. The Drakensberg region also offers activities that include canopy tours where you slide through the treetops on a cable slide, abseiling, quad bike trails, hot air ballooning, horse rides, white water rafting and so much more. The region is famous for its fly fishing opportunities too.

"Wow. We stayed at the Antbear Guesthouse for two wonderful nights. We could not have been made more welcome by the friendly hosts. This is the kind of guesthouse where you want to unpack your bags and never leave. Everything about our stay was first class. Our rooms were a delight and full of interesting handmade wooden furniture and fixings as well as extremely well equipped. The food, service and company were fabulous. "I enjoyed my stay at the lodge. It was situated in a secluded area which was nice because we got privacy. The surrounding atmosphere was peaceful. The view was beautiful. It was nice to be near the dams and springs. It was clean and tidy. Everything we needed was available. The room was comfortable. I just didn't like the fact that my partner and I received 2 single beds instead of 1 king size as advertised. Never the less we enjoyed our stay. The friendliness of the staff was great and so was the service. I would go back again and recommend it to others. "
