"On our second visit to De Hoop nature reserve we once again stayed at the small encampment there. Since our last visit in 2004 there has been much improvement to the accommodation. Fo those who want an 'away from it all' experience, this is perfect. Both the park and beach areas are spectacular and although the cottages are set up for self accommodation, a trip to the restaurant there is a must."

"lovely place "

Gundi Reck | 2 March 2017

"We stayed for 2 nights in a Rondavel. It was a great experience. We participated on bird excursion early in the morning and stars viewing in the night. Good dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and nearby a lot of animals to encounter as zebras, bonteboks ...."

"We stayed in a Rondavel with shared facilities which was great but only on a cold wet windy day, the outside shower previously amazing was not so any more brrr! Our description stated self catering but was only a kettle, toaster and braai so our shopping was futile. However the restaurant is very good and reasonable prices. Just wished we had knowledge of this. The setting is beautiful and saw more wildlife than ever imagined here including a caracal ! Definitely would recommend and return. On warmer days there is a lovely pool and low tide snorkelling etc. But we missed out due to weather. Loved it. "

The staff at the De Hoop Collection are amazing in their hospitality - be it at the shop, the various guided activities, the bar or the restaurant. They are helpful, knowledgable and friendly. It is no wonder that people seem to make De Hoop an annual get away - after my 2 nights; I am considering the same!

"The De Hoop nature reserve is really beautiful (Whale watching from the shore) and definitively worth visiting. For accomodation there is no real alternative than De Hoop Collection. We were a little disappointed since we booked an Opstal Vlei Cottage, but were asigned an Equipped Cottage upon arrival. Also, we booked a table at the restaurant at 9 pm and had to wait until 9:45 pm before the table was available. Because of this we were the last guests and felt a little stressed when desert was served and the staff obviously wanted to call in the day. However, the food and drinkes were very good!

"We booked a vlei cottage but when we arrived were told that there had been a mix up and we were put into a village cottage instead with free breakfast.

As birdwatchers, we particularly booked the vlei cottage and would not have booked in the village so free breakfasts were not really compensation.

I spoke to the booking clerk who said she had emailed me the previous day but the only email I received was on the morning of our arrival.

Eventually we were offered free dinner as well and the posibility of moving into the manor house for our second night but as the water was cut off in most of the complex while we were there but remained on in the village cottage we were in, we stayed put.

The cottage was well furnished and very pleasant but very close to the road and we were woken by traffic at 5am both mornings.

The staff were all very pleasant and helpful.

The restaurant served good though not outstanding food and we thought the choice [only 2 options for each course] rather limited.

The place itself is beautiful but as a couple slightly expensive."

"Excellent"

(South Africa) Fritz Rischmuller | 27 October 2013

"First class stay and meals, very clean and excellent guide Pinky. Lots to see like whales, eland bontebok, birds and other fauna and flora."

"Wonderful opportunity to experience natural beauty in the Cape"

(South Africa) Nicci Giles | 8 April 2011

"Loved the dunes, beautiful rock pools and abundant bird life. Koppie Alleen looks like a great place to stay.

We stayed in the Opstal's equipped cottages and my six- and four-year old had a ball."

"My stay in de Hoop will stay in my memory. There I found a magic beauty and energy, found a rare peace surrounded by nature and animals, met welcoming and impassioned people (the cook and the guide who took us through nature). My rondavel was my perfect little home for the three days looking onto to the lake with all its inhabitants, the birds. I was happy to feel this sensation of quality and safety coming originally from Switzerland. I just missed a little smile on the face of the cleaning lady. Well, this perhaps made me realize and really appreciate how perfect all the rest was?

Thank you and I will come back to refill my batteries and meet peace and passion

Thank you South Africa!"

"We spent two nights at the Vlei Cottages and had such a relaxing time. The reserve is so beautifully laid out with cottages situated very close to the vlei. The restaurant service was excellent and I have to rave about the cappuccinos. It is a fantastic place to chill out from a busy lifestyle. There are many activities do partake in - tennis, boule, cycling tracks, swimming in rock pools at low tide, kayaking on the vlei. The best of all was the friendly service, stunning decor and an amazing coast line. A definite must! "

"De Hoop Collection - Opstal cottages"

(South Africa) Fiona Baxter | 12 January 2010

"Pleasant, comfortable stay but a bit expensive considering quality of equipment, facilities and finishes in the cottages. Good menu and food at restaurant. Restaurant staff were also very accommodating about providing children with 'kiddies fare' which was not on the dinner menu. "

"A sensational spot accessible to the Cape Peninsula"
