Bartholomeus Klip is a charming small hotel for only 16 guests on a working wheat and sheep farm just over an hour away from Cape Town - ideally situated for exploring the famous winelands.

There is a 4 000 hectare fynbos nature reserve, with a spectacular backdrop of mountains, to be explored on game drives or by mountain bike, and beautiful gardens with a unique swimming pool. The food is renowned, with lavish brunches and high teas, and a gourmet three-course dinner. The separate Wild Olive House, with its own swimming pool, can be hired on a self-catering or full-board basis.

In-room facilities include: Air conditioner, hairdryer, fan, gowns, slippers and alarm clock.

Guests are taken on nature drives twice daily through the reserve to see many different sorts of buck, including eland, springbok and black wildebeest, as well as zebras from the world-famous Quagga Project, and a great variety of wildflowers in the springtime. The working farm has extensive wheatlands and large flocks of sheep, as well as an impressive 45-strong breeding herd of disease-free Cape buffalo.

*** Meals can be reserved at the Main House prior to arrival at an additional cost.

"Outstanding in every way. I loved the heavenly landscape, peaceful atmosphere, lush garden and majestic trees surrounding the lovingly restored romantic Victorian farmhouse. The service was impeccable; genteel & friendly. Wining & dining was a serious affair - I'm still salivating! The guided game drives were interesting & unusual - we were lucky to see rare geometric tortoises. Another highlight was the resonant calls and sight of numerous blue cranes circling us as they flew down to their overnight spot. Tips: see amazing flowers in springtime; get married at the boathouse; take timeout to reconnect with yourself & nature."

"My stay at this extraordinary collector's item of the Good Cooks and their Country Houses was incredible to say the least: from the glass of welcome bubbly on arrival to the intriguing fynbos game drives, from the Norwegian salmon to my high tea on a silver tray, from the starched white linen to the lavender on my pillow, from the refreshing swim in the crisp morning air to the thick bathrobe on my skin. I will definitely be back with my 5-year old, as the kids' cooking activities, bicycles and walks in the nature reserve will definitely be a hit with my girl!"
