We enjoyed the tranquility and the fact that the lodges are situated far enough from each other not to be bothered by neighbours. Sondela Reserve is a paradise for both children and adults with ample heated and cold swimming pools, a farmyard for the kids and some game watching.

Our children enjoyed the tame wild life and was thrilled to be able to feed the nyala's by hand.

My only recommendation is to install a dishwasher. Being 7 people in the lodge, we maxed out on the amount of cutlery and crockery available with each meal, implying that we had lots of dishes to do, despite the unit being serviced.

We will definitely return to Makhato 84 and recommend it to my family and friends.

"Planning a Trip away to celebrate my partners birthday could be termed as one of the most daunting tasks of the year. He is by far the fussiest person I have come across and after reviewing over 50 different accommodation offerings around the Pilansberg and Hartebeesport we set out looking at accommodation near Warmbaths. Our wish List became very specific, being 9 people we required self catering accommodation but what made it more difficult is that my partner wanted us all to be under one roof. After searching and researching, we narrowed the options down to Makhato and the Zwartkloof Game reserve. At this point the decision fell on me as my partner wanted some element of surprise and I felt that Makhato met our needs. On the day we packed up the vehicles and about an hour and a half later we arrived at the Sondela Game reserve. On Arrival at the Main gate we were greeted by a friendly guard who signed us in and gave us directions to the reception desk. It was approximately a 7km drive to reception on a dirt road which was a definite no no as we were in a very low vehicle but surprisingly the roads were exceptionally well maintained and easy to manoeuvre even in a sports car. Within the first two kilometres we were blessed to see Njala and zebra at an arms length of our vehicle. At the reception desk we were greeted by friendly staff who checked us in within 10minutes and furnished us with a welcome pack together with a map of the reserve. We then proceeded to our Lodge, on the way seeing many antelope and beautiful birdlife. The Makhato self catering lodges are very well spaced apart offering privacy and a real out of town bush feeling as though you are the only group at the reserve. Entering the Unit, it is just as depicted online, beautifully furnished with exceptional attention to detail. The unit has everything we wished for, ample sitting space, a beautiful outdoor entertainment area and all the home comforts inside with the beauty of the bush on the outside. The unit was neat and clean, free of any spider webs or dust and fresh towels laid out for each of our guests as well as amble crockery for our meals. Within the first hours of our arrival we had Njala at our doorstep and we had the opportunity to pet and feed them, we had also encountered blue wildebeest,goats and giraffe. Makhato 84 definitely exceeded our expectations and is absolute value for money and we will definitely be visiting them again. Their attention to detail was superb and they assisted us with any additional requirements we had with no hassles. If you are looking for a wonderful 4 star bush experience, Makhato 84 is a must."
